@autumnlove: @Mrs. Jacks: I love Dr. Seuss, so I have to step in here to defend him! ;) "Fox in Socks" is meant for kids to read to themselves when they're old enough. It's okay for adults to read it too, of course, but if you don't like it, find another Seuss book that has a story--Yertle the Turtle, The Sneetches, Thidwick, Horton, The Bippolo Seed, Mulberry Street, etc.--those are written so that parents can read them aloud. They're often considered to be kindergarten or above level, but my 2 yo LO has enjoyed them for a while, and they're interesting enough that I don't get sick of them.

"Fox", "Wocket", and even "The Cat in the Hat" are for early readers (i.e., not anyone commenting on this blog!). :) That said, I loved "Wocket", and it's a quick read, so I read it to my LO all the time when he was not really into sitting for a long time to read books, around the 9-12 mo. mark.

The last book I read LO was "An Orange for Frankie" by Patricia Polacco. I like her illustrations, but I don't care for some of the dialect she uses, so I just change it while I'm reading.

"Mrs. Wow does not want a cow" - it came in our Dr. Suess set, but I don't think it's actually by Dr. Suess?

I can't get through a book w/ DD. She just wants to open, close and turn the pages. But I tried to read her "Ears, Nose and Toes", a lift the flap book.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar... sort of. Our own little very hungry caterpillar tried to eat the book and then crawled away about halfway through the story. This is usually how reading goes with her these days.

@mrs. wagon: DH and I LOVE that book! It was gifted to us at our shower and DH read it to my stomach every night for like 2 months, and reads it to DS almost every night! He doesn't understand it yet, of course, but he seems to enjoy DH's voices.

I'm 39 weeks pregnant, so I've been reading baby "Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go," which is the Dr. Seuss book "re-written" for you to read in-utero. It was a gift from my sister-in-law, and I just love it. I tear up every time I read it.
