This was a small thing, but we were sitting at the doctor's office and he was sitting on my lap facing away from me, and I bent my head down toward his to look at his face and he totally caught me from the top of his eyeline and tilted his head back to look at me. I thought that was so cool :) He's 4 months old so literally everything he does is like OMG WOW THAT IS SO NEAT! :p

Also, when DH left the bedroom last night after putting him down, his eyes were closed but he was still moving around -- trying to suck his thumb, hugging the blanket, rubbing it on his face -- and usually if we leave him like that, he'll start crying for us within 5 or 10 minutes and we'll have to go back in there and rock him to sleep. But he never did cry and 30 minutes later I checked on him and he was sound asleep. So he basically put himself to sleep! Which... you have no idea. That is such a huge deal for him.

He's taking tiny cruising steps! He refuses to crawl but loves to stand holding onto the couch and shifting his weight from foot to foot.

He's also really fun now. He used to cry more easily and stay upset longer, but he's smiling and laughing a lot more than he used to - at least around us.

My 20 month old just shocked me yesterday. She was sitting in the bath, and said 'bebe very hungry'. Ok, she says that, that's normal. Then she says 'bebe hurt, bebe need eat medicine'. She wanted to eat the liquid tylenol because she was hungry, so she tried to tell me that she was hurt and needed it! I was totally shocked and amused.

Usually M is pretty stingy with the giggles. She'll laugh sometimes for DH but not often and never for me! Today she belly laughed for 10 minutes when I was playing with her. I was shocked and it definitely made my day!

I can't wait for all of the "big kid" things that you ladies are describing. So fun!

@Mrs. Jump Rope, @Mrs. Pen; isn't that the best? Lorelei was nursing the other night and started petting my eyebrow and saying "eye-bough" over and over in this sweet little lovey voice. First time she had ever said that! And we were looking at baby robins today and she kept saying "beak, beak" and trying to grab its beak. It is too cool to watch the words get added. Ellie had a horseback lesson today and Lorelei was saying all of the horses names, "Shay, Dance (Dancer), Sadie, Dixie, Roper" after I would say them to her.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I love that! J loves to point to our facial features. He knows what they are when we ask- like if we say where are your teeth he shows his teeth. But he hasn't actually said nose yet!

Yesterday my mom came to our house and she was really wet from the rain, when J touched her hair and made it face because it was wet, she said, "it's wet!"

5-10 minutes later he touches her head again and says clear as day, "wet!" And said it a few more times haha!

He also just learned the word hat and will pay his head and say hat, then go get one of his Or my hat and put it on. It's so funny. I love hearing him learn to say so many new words!

His recall amazes me on a daily basis now at almost 17 months.

Today we went out for breakfast and were done, but were talking while finishing our coffee. He reaches out to touch my husband's arm to get his attention and very clearly says, "all done." Usually he just randomly calls it out and will go back to eating.

Lately when any sports (basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey... obviously hasn't mastered puck yet) comes on TV, he says ball. He even said it when we went to a baseball game last week.

She's playful and sometimes makes fart noises with our faces. Today she was sticking out her tongue while trying to lick my face and I was laughing while moving my head left and right to avoid it. she grabbed my face and tried to hold it still! It totally shocked me because she's never done that before!

I keep looking away for a few seconds and finding DD in places that I didn't know she could get to on her own. -- Sitting proudly in a rocking chair, sitting in the laundry bin having climbed in on her own. DD is a turning into a little monkey! I have to look out!

I guess I'm amazed at the level of understanding and directions-following. I told Lorelei this morning that if she wanted to look at one of Ellie's legos she had to go sit on her butt on the carpet. And she repeated "carpet" several times and sat down expectantly on the carpet (even though the hard floor was right where she had been standing, so she understood where to go as well as that she had to sit). Then this morning she said, "me do" without being prompted when I was trying to feed her yogurt. Ellie has been surprising us with her reading and spelling. She's been reading over my shoulder when I post to Hellobee on occasion if she's up and Lorelei's down for nap, and she gets pretty much all of it. I have to watch carefully now to make sure it's all appropriate stuff!

Today I realized that my 12 month old recognizes the 10 or so books we have in regular rotation. I was making lunch for her and she did something that reminded me of a book we read, so I started reciting that part of the book, and then she crawled to her book bin and grabbed that book! I was so surprised that I started asking her to find other books by name, and she pulled out the correct ones!

I was amazed, and also scared because I started wondering how much she probably knows/understands...yikes
