One night at dinner (37w5d pregnant) I felt super motivated to make a list of last minute things to tackle before the baby came. My husband and I organized everything and set up a schedule for everything to be completed...

I went into labor 6 hours later. Guess how many we got done before the baby came? Haha

I had a week of 'false' labour, so when it actually was go time, I had some doubts. I woke up at 5am needing to use the washroom, then I lost a big piece of mucus plug. Contractions were coming every 4 minutes and I panicked. But they weren't painful, so my midwife encouraged me to get some more sleep. After a full day of contractions every 5-10 minutes, the midwife told me that they would change and get more intense (and probably further apart). sure enough, that's what happened, around 11 the next morning. She was born at 2am.

@travellingbee: Similar story here, my labour was slow getting started. I had false labour for a couple of weeks. I knew the contractions were real ones when they got real because they felt different, but even then I laboured for another day with real contractions before things got "real" as in, needing the hospital. It was a long and slow road with no dramatic ah-ha moment haha.

@LovelyPlum: I was the same. So much false labor that I was in total denial until DH was having to do counter pressure on my hips and I was moaning to get through contractions.

@sweetooth: the uncertainty was the worst part for me! I had so much false labor, weeks and weeks of it. I eventually got to the point where I refused to believe until the pain made me believe. Even then, I wasn't sure if I was just being a wuss. Nope, showed up at a 6. I hope babe gets here soon!

Just had LO today at 33 weeks. For the last few days I've just felt really off. Too tired, and sore, and just out of sorts. I had read that that was common in the days befor labor, so I actually thought that if I was closer to term I would be expecting to deliver very soon. Though as far as knowing for sure, my water didn't break till about a minute before she arrived, so first thing that was really definite was when I started bleeding. But I was already pretty sure from pain levels by then. (She got here about 3 hours after the bleeding started.)

With 1, i was 40 weeks, dilated to almost a 4 and then my water broke at 11 at night.

With 2, I felt sick but was just at the end of my pregnancy so I wrote it off. I started having contractions hoping I could hold out until morning, then progressed really quickly, when I started bleeding I knew I had to go to the hospital.

@sweetooth: It was nice! I could do what I wanted, eat what I wanted, and just be where I wanted. My hospital was great though, they let you labor however you want (unless there are complications) and I ended up being on the monitor the whole time because I wanted to stay in bed (I had pretty much been walking for 11 hours by the time I got there).

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Waking up in the middle of the night for "go time" is hard! Was your experience for your second child very different from your first?

@Peasinapod: I think that's the craziest thing when there are no indicators prior to the start of it all. I was trying to read up on contractions, timing, etc. this time but I don't know that I'll even get to that stage.

@avivoca: You labored at home for 11 hours? Wow! I bet it was nice to be able to be at home though instead of hooked up to everything at the hospital.

I knew it was time when my contractions became painful (I had lots of Braxton-Hicks) and went to the hospital after 11 hours of labor. I needed to know where I was in the labor process.

With baby #2, I felt extreme pressure, had crazy discharge, and went #2 a lot the day before labor. Then, I woke up in the middle of the night in full-on labor.

@LovelyPlum: It's so interesting how unique this process is for each and every one of us. But I also think it's interesting how much our bodies can inform us. I'm finding I'm getting mixed signals these days because I have no indicators other than what they can tell me from what they see on my insides.

Hopefully your upper respiratory infection/strep didn't stick around long once your baby came!

@littleblessings: I had so many people tell me that your water won't break - that's only what they show you in the movies. And boom - I was dead asleep and awakened by my water breaking! Where were you when yours broke?

I'm not really sure what came fist. I felt really off the day I went into labor, and I had an upper respiratory infection/strep develop the same day, so it may have been unrelated. But my contractions were changing, too-more period cramps than back aches. Once that happened, I just had this feeling that the end was near, and it was! LO was born 18 hours later.

Good luck!!

For my first baby my water broke at 11pm. I was 37w5d. Not dilated at all. No signs of labor. But now, looking back, I feel like the signal was a few days prior to "go time". It was my birthday. And I felt AWESOME! I seriously didn't feel pregnant. I felt light as a feather. I felt invincible! And three days later, I was became a first-time mama.

I'm currently 37w2d with my second baby. Last week he gave us a scare with low amniotic fluids. And then he decided to go transverse on me. After a night in the hospital with IV fluids, he turned back to heads down and my fluid was up enough that I got to go home.

But now, I feel like I'm on high alert. I feel like no matter what, my original 7/11 due date is not happening. But I wonder what will be my sign this time around that it's "go time". I don't feel like it's going to happen today - but this time around, I feel like all signs are internal. Out of my hands. No contractions. No pain. Just potential for every doctor visit to reveal that my fluid is low again and this baby is coming now. I'm currently 4 hours away from finding out if today is my day.

What was your "sign" that it was go time?
