My son dropped his nap at 3 years 9 months, I think I've written about this before to you...it was perfect timing because he was about to start a preschool program that was from 12-3 the following month.

It was great for us, it was really time for him to drop the nap because it was taking him forever to fall asleep at night. Once he dropped the nap, he'd fall asleep within minutes as opposed to hours.

@hilsy85: Nolan naps most days still but every now and then no nap. On no nap days he goes to bed early. I am so not ready to give up nap time yet. :meh:

@BandDmommy: he starts in september, but he's actually going to be in an afternoon program, from 1230-3, so I fully expect him to drop his nap the days he is at school. I just thought he'd hold out on the transition til then!

@hilsy85: I'd keep putting him down. My guess is it's a stage. Plus being pregnant you need the break. :) my guess is he will fall back into a napping routine. When does he start preschool? I've heard that exhausts them...

@BandDmommy: oh yes, he is in his crib for a while regardless! I need the quiet time too.

@daniellemybelle: ha I know!!! And he was SUCH a good napper prior to this...

@sandy: when he naps, it doesn't seem to affect his abililty to fall asleep at night...but it seems like this might be the beginning of the end!

@gracecat: He TOTALLY was the kid that needed his nap up until last week! I am also really surprised that he seems to be starting to drop it..

@NovBaby1112: that makes a lot of sense...when LO naps, he sleeps about 13 hours in a 24 hour period (11 over night and a 2 hour nap). WHen he doesn't nap, he sleeps about 12--about 7pm-7am. So I would think that deficit would leave him tired enough to nap the next day? But I guess we'll see...I could try putting him to bed at his normal time of 8pm.

My LO goes through phases of not napping, but always ends up taking a nap after a week of no naps. What I found is that she sleeps 12.5ish hours total in a 24 hour period, so when she wouldn't nap and I would put her to bed at 6/6:30 and she would sleep until 6:30/7, she just wasn't tired that day to take a nap, so it was kind of a cycle we got stuck in. I found if I put her to bed at like 7:30/8 she would still wake at 6:30 but then be tired enough to take a nap that next day, if that makes sense.

I hear a lot of kids losing naps at this age but don't personally know of any of my friends toddlers between 2-3 yrs actually stopped napping. Dd is 27 mths and absolutely needs a nap even if its only 20-30 min. Long. If she skips it she is a mess. I would treat it like a phase and hope it gets reinstated just in case! Dreading the end of naps too...

My LO started dropping her nap around 2.5 - she would nap maybe once every 3-4 days. And when she did nap it would be a mega nap so I felt like she still needed it and we still did quiet time in bed for 1-1.5 hours.

After she turned 3 it was even more sporadic (like maybe once a week). I actually enjoyed it when she didn't nap bc bedtime would be super early. She would still sleep 12-13 hours overnight. If she did nap it would take forever for her to fall asleep at bedtime.

At 3 years 4 months we still do quiet time but I might start phasing that out bc she's been taking longer to fall asleep the last week even without a nap. I'd rather tire her out during the day so I can have a nice evening to myself. She usually sleeps 7pm - 7:30am (if she doesn't have school i let her sleep in til 8:30)

Going through the same thing here at 2.5. Still takes a great nap at day care but he's pretty much phasing it out at home. And suddenly waking up so much earlier than ever before. No solutions but also hoping it's a phase!

My DS turns 3 at end of May and still taking one long nap. He fights it some times but he needs it. I plan on at least putting him in his room for quiet time once a day until he's in elementary school. Mama needs quiet time.

@Tidybee: I am also pushing the nap every day regardless of whether he sleeps! The good thing seems to be the last few days when he DOES nap, it's a good long nap.

@HLK208: eek! I hope it gets better soon! We definitely put him to bed a good hour earlier than usual to off set the no nap, so maybe that helps with the evening crankiness?

It's been rough! She started transitioning at 28 months too. Since 2.5, she only has a nap once every 2 weeks or so but it still seems like she needs one every day based on her behavior (she's 3 months shy of 3 years right now).

I am going through the same thing!!! Early wakeups too and fighting naps every day. Today's nap was 32 minutes and she is still awake upstairs. I'm really hoping it's just a phase...maybe since they're both going through it, it is?? It also happened around the time of daylight savings so I'm thinking it's that.
I'm just going to keep fighting the fight for naps. Maybe as long as I keep it in her routine it will come back.

Lo is 28 months and until recently, has been a kid who never missed a nap in his life. Last week, he skipped his nap two days, and then today again, he didn't nap. He doesn't seem particularly cranky when he doesn't nap, and he is content to stay in his crib for 1-2 hours just talking to himself. Is this what the transition to no nap like? or is it likely just a phase? I know he will be dropping the nap at some point, but I really thought he would be 3 and still napping (and this is not great timing since I am in my 1st tri and soo tired!).
