I didn't have a lot of pain post partum thankfully but the worst part was horrible back pain - I think from pushing for 2 hours and using muscles I don't normally use. That lasted for a couple weeks but was totally manageable with pain meds.

For me, it was a giant open wound on my nipple that didn't heal for 10 weeks. I hardly noticed the pain from my 3rd degree year.

Lo2: sick less than two weeks pp, yeast, feeling extra tired and worn down. This recovery has actually seemed worse tbh.

With LO1 it was the swelling due to pushing and the nipple pain from BFing
With LO2 recovery has been immensely easier, the hardest part is still bleeding.

I had an emergency c-section. Worst part of recovery for me was probably about 14 days after I got home, when one end of my incision opened back up, painful and weeping. After a few days it scabbed and healed, then a few days later it opened back up and oozed. It hurt badly and was nasty! After about a week of that, a white wiry looking thing appeared in the ooze. I thought I was going to die, it looked like a tiny worm or something! But then I realized it was an internal suture. My doc said they were all going to dissolve. Turns out the knot didn't dissolve and my body had generated an inflammatory response to escort it out (hence the redness and pus--essentially a localized "infection" but probably just my own white blood cells and no pathogens involved).

I had a newborn and didn't have time to trek accross town to my OB's office at that point so I sterilized some tweezers and tugged on that white bit of suture until the knot broke out of me. It HURT and was pretty much the nastiest thing I've ever had to do. But after the knot came out, that end of the incision finally closed up and "infection" was gone within 24 hours. The body is a weird and fascinating thing.

But yeah, that was the worst part of my recovery. :meh:

LO1: pain from breastfeeding and mastitis was awful. Also, my stitches from my 2nd degree tear were always poking/jabbing me and they didn't fall out until 9w or so post-partum.
LO2: I had a 2nd degree vertical tear and a lateral episiotomy that resulted in a hematoma. Worst pain ever. They put me on percocet, but that triggered a monster migraine. Then I got mastitis. I was in a world of hurt for the first 10 days, but then overnight, it got a lot better.

LO1 back pain from pumping, extreme fatigue from getting back to life after losing so much muscle on bedrest
LO2 undiagnosed granulation tissue. That was a few weeks out though. Even though I had a smooth birth, I was surprised by my (totally normal and probably mild) swelling and pain because LO1 was a preemie so no stitches or swelling or anything. With LO1 I didn't even need a tylenol after hours sitting on a wooden chair in the NICU.

with charlie it was when my percocet ran out post c-section. when i had it i was invincible!

with olive it was extenuating circumstances because she had an extended stay and i had to walk so much from a hotel to the hospital for a week. then again, mastitis with her was one of the most painful things ever!

I had weird back/shoulder problems that caused sooooo much excruciating pain. I'm still not sure if it was from the surgery or from bad nursing position or what. It went away after a week. Oh, I also had terrible GI issues that kept me from eating even though I was super hungry from nursing two babies. Basically if I ate anything it would cause me to need to be in the bathroom for hours afterward and I didn't have that luxury because I had two newborns! I lost so much weight by my 10 day after incision check that my dr basically gave me an intervention and was like you HAVE TO EAT. I can't remember when that got better but I started to find a few things I could tolerate and it eventually was ok, of course.

LO1: An unmedicated episiotomy and extremely severe tearing. I was still in searing pain 6-8 weeks sitting and even driving would occasionally bring tears to my eyes more than 2 months out.

LO2:Nothing was really bad, I had a super easy recovery compared to my first despite still some minor tearing.

I had a degree tear after pushing for 4 hours and then needing a vacuum-assist. 3 days PP my stitches ripped. Just the outer one, which is "cosmetic," so they didnt restitch me, because everything else was healing nicely. But then I developed a skin tag from the irritation that took 4 1/2 months to go away. My doctor had planned to clip and stitch it, but then it started subsiding, so we waited it out. It seemed to take forever! And, of course, we couldn't have sex until it did, because it was right there, and was so tender.
