@looch: genius!!

Our best relatively inexpensive purchase was a pull down clothes rack that we put above a bunch of shelves in our closet. It lets me hang a bunch of stuff in what otherwise would have been wasted space. http://www.organizeit.com/pull-down-closet-rod-small.asp?cmpid=gpa&gclid=CLDU7KCdkrwCFQtgMgodf1YAcA

@Mae: that is adorable!! Our front door has a big oval of glass that is just clear see-thru glass, so anyone can look right in. So if someone's at the door, when you go to the door, hello, you're face to face immediately. Kind of awkward. I think the previous tenants broke the glass and whatever else was there so they just replaced it with clear glass because it was quick and easy. We got a sheet of frosted paper but Wagon Sr. did the application and cut out the oval with A BOXCUTTER so it looks awful and is peeling all around the edges of the oval. I hate it!! I am definitely going to look into doing this instead!!!

@mrs. bird: ours are dark/ light sensored. Mr. Lime is not a cat but he does the same thing as your cat. I really hope our LOS take after me. :silly:

@Mae: that looks soo good. I bought frosted spray paint for my mom's front doors, but she cannot see out of them. This is so much better!

@Mae: now I need to find a surface to do that on. It looks incredible. I just realized our kitchen window is double hung, so it may not look right. I've been searching for a roman shade for three years to fit the odd size of our window. Right now it looks ugly with the curtain I've got hung.

But I hear ya on the privacy thing. We lived here for a few days when my next door neighbor popped by and said, "I didn't know you had two cats!" bam, curtains were bought and hung that day. Apparently she walks thru my backyard to get to the other neighbors house & could see in our dining room!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh. I didn't mean they were permanent, i thought you were concerned that it wouldn't stay up long and would peel off on its own. Honestly I don't know how well it would peel off since I haven't tried, but realistically it is contact paper-- so it should definitely come off! I sort of assume the longer I leave it up there the harder it may be to get off, but i figure with some combination of peeling and goo-gone it is removable.

@Mae: crap. I don't want something permanent because I change my mind so frequently about decor. And, we are looking to sell in the next year or two, and I'm not sure how the new owners would feel about a permanent piece on the new windows!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Yep light still definitely comes through! The paper does not pull off despite lots of weather changes-- it has been up for almost 2 years and no signs of any peeling at all. Also it is wipe-able. I haven't had to really scrub it, but i can wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove doggy nose-prints with no issues. I did a tutorial on my blog, but the TLDR version is: pick a shape, cut out lots of that shape, stick shape on door. ;) http://fifteenminuteplan.wordpress.com/2012/02/13/faux-frosted-glass-back-door-makeover/
