I really liked some patterns on spoon flower but then I found this great fabric outlet. I don't love the pattern as much as the one I picked out on spoon flower but it was a ton cheaper and I like it better than most curtains I was thinking about in the store.

The glider will likely be the most expensive item. Art/ wallpaper may be the next highest splurge line item. While technically not in the nursery, the bassinet I want to use for our room is more than my current favorite crib. It's Babyhome's Air Bassinet.

Our glider was almost 550 dollars, it looks like an overstuffed rocking chair that reclines but is a glider...and we never useit. My baby isn't one that likes to be rocked so hopefully our next one will appreciate it or it was a waste of money! haha

all this is making me think perhaps the Glider ISN'T the place I'm going to save money ;-) really interesting to hear everyone's experiences!

I have officially started decorating today - as in I have started putting paint samples on the walls and stripping the existing wallpaper... excited to see it all come together over the next few months - we'll have to work around the double-bed for a bit longer since we may need it still for visitors over the summer but I'm not letting that stop me getting the rest of the space a bit more 'sorted' - up to now this has been our little-used guest-room-come-dumping-ground so it feels good to finally have a better purpose for it, even if LO will be sleeping in our room to start with; at least we'll have it all set up for baby-storage and changing station etc.

I bought a used Oeuf Classic crib off of craigslist- it was in great condition and came with a used organic mattress. I was a little leery of buying used, but I'm so happy I purchased such a sturdy, environmentally friendly crib. I got both the crib and mattress for $450.

The crib! We bought a Gulliver crib from Ikea and were going to be perfectly happy with it, but then found a used Oeuf Classic (in perfect condition, from someone we trusted) for $300. More than we were planning to spend, but still a great deal, and it converts into a really cute toddler bed for later.

well we got a crib for free, the dresser we already had (in guest bedroom which is now baby room), painting was cheap, rocking chairs we got for free....so i didn't really spend much on anything for the nursery! so i "splurged" on wooden letters that spell out his first and middle name to hang on the wall. All other items were cheaper than this i believe (shelves for closet, baby hangers, change pad)

We didn't really spend very much on the nursery. I knew we'd be moving soon and didn't want everything getting beat up on the way. The most expensive thing I bought was a chest of drawers for $250. I retailed for over $500 but I got it on sale because the store was closing.

Hmmm...nothing really. We didn't buy a glider. And our crib was under $200. I spent almost $300 on decorating the room, so I guess overall decor was our most expensive splurge.

We are doing the nursery VERY budget-consciously, thanks to gifts and hand-me-downs. Our glider/ottoman was handed down from friends, our (inexpensive) Ikea crib and bookcase were purchased by MIL. So my "splurge" would be $80 worth of fabric from fabric.com for custom curtains and cribskirt. There are lots of little purchases here and there (book ledges, frames, materials for DIY stuff), but yep, that $80 is the splurge!

The glider. We spent $550 on it. It's a very nice piece of furniture in a neutral color, so our justification is that we will use it in our living room once LO outgrows the need for it.

@Mrs. Pen: This is kind of how we were too. Pretty much every item was under $100 and I made some things that we didn't want to spend a lot of money on (artwork).

Right now we just have a rocking recliner in there that used to be in the living room but I do hope to get a nicer glider when we buy a house.

I planned to splurge on PBK furniture to use over multiple kids. But then we had twins, and needed them to share a room, at least at first. So we repurposed furniture from around the house, and bought cheaper cribs and gliders. Each of the cribs, mattresses, and gliders were about $100 each.

I guess you could say that our splurge is having three cribs and two gliders? :)

Our crib and glider were the biggest splurges. We got an Oeuf crib b/c I wanted a sturdy and environmentally sound crib. It is totally worth it, now that DD has started trying to chew on the crib bars. Our glider was the cheapest one of its type on Amazon, but still very expensive (at least to me). It has been totally worth it too though. We sit and rock in it all the time!
