We took one 8 hour birthing class and I found it useful. They discussed four types of birthing techniques, pain relief, we took a tour of the new facilities, discussed skin to skin, breastfeeding and lactation consultation, and all that good stuff. DH said it answered some of his questions too. I think he was concerned about what to do when I'm in labor.

Ours was a waste. It was supposed to be 4 3 hour classes but they crammed it into 2.5 classes and a rushed hospital tour. I didn't learn anything but DH got a bit of information out of it, so I guess it wasn't a total loss. They said breathing techniques were outdated and didnt cover even a second of that type of thing. It was rushed and kinda made me mad.

We're still taking ours. It's seven 2.5 hour sessions over seven weeks. I am really enjoying it! It's an empowered birth class that is based on Lamaze, and it's way more than breathing. We spend time practicing positions, pain relief methods, and learn a lot about hospital policies. This is an out of hospital class taught by a doula, which I really like.

We have an 8 hour childbirth class coming up, and I'm wondering what to expect? 8 hours seems like an awfully long time. I'm also nervous because I felt like our infant care class was a giant waste of time. The instructor (a nurse) was misinformed on SIDS stuff and was not very helpful in general. I've learned way more from HB than in that class. But I haven't done much reading up on the actual birth process so maybe it'll be more worthwhile than I think. 8 hours is just a LONG time.
