@sunshineandsushi: I have a really high cervix, but I also had a vaginal delivery. It didn't hurt at all going in for me, and when I had it taken out my doc quickly asked if I had v or c, when I said v she said "great, this will be easy"

I have had mine for several years now and I love it. I spotted nearly daily for the first six months almost exactly which was obnoxious but since then I spot for like 12 hours every 2 months and that's it. I had tried at least a dozen other types of birth control and not been able to even tolerate any of them (most made me vomit or have super volatile mood swings) and I have not had a single issue in those regards with the mirena.

I just had Mirena put in today and it hurt like a mofo! Does it make a difference if you had a c section instead of a vaginal delivery in terms of the pain you feel? Or did it hurt worse if you have a high cervix? They put mine in under ultrasound guidance and I'm soo glad, otherwise it would have been even worse!

Loved it! Until I took it out and became a crazy hormonal mess until everything situated itself again.
It did take 6months to get pregnant too after it was removed but I don't plan on having anymore kids and I loved not having a period so I'm probably gonna get it again after this baby comes out.

LOVE. I got it in at 6 weeks pp and I haven't had a period since. I've had no issues. No cramping, no bleeding, none of the problems I heard horror stories about before I go it.

@MamaG: I want to love it too, but I am with you, sick of the bleeding. It will have been in 7 months (if I make it that long, it's only been 2) when it comes out and we start TTC again, and never again will I consider Mirena.

@sandy: Doesn't seem like I will have it in long enough for the bleeding to stop..... If I have it taken out I don't know if I want to mini-pill it, condoms...bleh....I just need something until June!!!

I was on depo pre-baby and miss it so, so much. I know there are so many negatives with depo, I was an awesome positive, so I guess I *had* to get the negative with Mirena? Boo.

My friend was traumatized by her experience so I will never get it. They put it in and "lost it" and she had to have surgery. It ended up being a 3 year long ordeal for her. I think she had a lot of spotting, too.

Love mine! I'm on my second one, and I've had no periods now for a little over 7 years. Also took away my menstrual migraines. I plan to leave mine in right up to the moment I start TTC, and once I have a sprogling I'm getting a new Mirena popped right in.

I think the Mirena is wonderful. When I had it inserted before having children it hurt like a mofo to have put in and I had cramping and bleeding on and off for several months; then no periods for several years and no pms symptoms. Awesome sauce!!!

Inserting it this time (post LO) didn't really hurt too much at all; it was less painful than I was expecting. I haven't had any cramps or bleeding since the day I got it inserted.

Removal of the first IUD was a snap; no pain at all.

@MamaG: me too! I got it 4 months PP and basically had nonstop spotting for about 7-8 months. There would be a few days a month of no spotting but most of the time I would be cursing myself for deciding on Mirena as my BC choice. It's almost been a year and the nonstop spotting has finally stopped but my periods are definitely heavier than they were when I was on the pill.

I'm planning on taking it out in about 12 months to try for #2 and then either my husband will get a vasectomy or I'll go back on the pill...no more Mirena for me

I've had mine for almost 3 months, and so far haven't had any trouble with it. It hurt for a split second to insert, and I cramped off and on for that day and the next. I did lightly spot off an on for something close to like 6 weeks, but I understand that isn't unusual. I haven't felt it at all, although I randomly check to make sure I can feel the string because I'm paranoid. My sex drive has not been negatively affected--it's actually through the roof.

I bled continually for 6 months, and my sex drive dropped. I gained weight, but that was probably the newlywed 15. My periods were great once it settled in- much lighter. Mine came out during a mishap with the menstrual cup, and DH strongly opposed another one going back in.

@mrsmenow: my dr wanted to give me implanon, and then she told me about how the whole time you have it to expect to bled randomly, not just spotting, but period like bleeding frequently randomly without warning. i passed after hearing that since almost all of the ppl i know with mirena had their periods go away.

I got mine put in September when my insurance changed and it was covered. DS was 1.5 yrs old. I barely felt it when it was inserted. I had a colposcopy a few years back which was WAY worse and that was only like bad period cramps. I had one period and nothing since. No cramps, very little spotting if any at all, and best of all, no "oops baby".

Totally worth it in my opinion. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's awesome enough I would have another after baby #2 even if I have to pay out of pocket.

i have a bunch of friends who love them! i'm the only person i know that didn't have a good experience with it. but i had it inserted even though i hadn't had children yet, so that makes it more difficult to insert & more likely to be rejected. my uterus was contracting to reject it & ended up partially expelling it, i had to take a round of antibiotics before they would remove it completely. it was a rather uncomfortable few days for me. after we're done having LOs, i will def consider trying to have one inserted again!

I'm in the "not" love camp. I had it removed at 6 months due to continual heavy spotting. I had about 2-3 days a month where i had absolutely no bleeding in that time frame. My skin was also a mess.

I wanted to love it because not having to take a pill everyday was a wonderful feeling.

I loved mine. I had mine pre-children since I had pretty bad periods, and I think I only had one period the whole time I was on it - which was a year. The initial cramping lasted about 2 days but wasn't too bad. Unfortunately my body rejected it (like it rejects everything else it seems!) Otherwise I would still have one. I'm thinking of trying another one once I'm done having children and seeing how it goes.

Haaaaaate it.

I had it put in Dec 11th (6w pp) and cannot wait until it comes out in June.

I have had a period every other week since it went in. If my bladder is full I can feel it, I get weird cramps and just not a good gut feeling on it. I don't know if it's me being a wimp or legit something not right so I am finally going to make sure I say something my next trip to the doctor (LOs 4 month appt later this month).

Would never have it put in again, the bad lawyer commercials on TV about it and posts like this scare me with the negatives. If this thing effs with my fertility or I have to have any sort of surgery, I will be so pissed.

I had my Mirena put in at 6 weeks PP and just had it taken out last week at 11months PP (we're thinking it might be time for #2 soon:).

It was a dream. My skin was awesome the whole time, no pain or discomfort associated with it. My periods were so light I didn't even need a pantyliner, I would just have a little spotting when I wiped.

According to my doc, if they cut the 'retrevial' strings too short then you need to have it surgically removed. My ob makes a point to leave the strings long to avoid this. He also told me that if DH complained that he could feel the strings when we DTD I could come back and have them trimmed. He then jokingly mentioned that most men only notice the strings after their wives ask 'did you feel the strings?' as "Men are very suggestible creatures." (His words! lol!) I plan to have a Mirena put in again after LO #2. LOVED IT :)
