@foodnerd81: funny thing is that I was fairly certain too. I had been charting, but I was still 3 days off. And I gotta say, that ultrasound made that super long appointment worth it. It really made this pregnancy real for me and I've had so much less stress about how much or how little symptoms I'm having each day. You gotta do what you gotta do, right?

@ourwiredlives: Haha, I totally have considered acting like I'm not sure about the last period or something to get an u/s, even though I was charting and am fairly certain of the exact day I ovulated :)

I just had my first prenatal appointment this week at what I had thought was 8 weeks. They took a ton of blood, peed in a cup, took a swab of my cervix for testing, a long medical history, then gave me a TB and flu shot. I exaggerated a little and said I was guessing on my last period and had spotting (true) so they did an u/s to check. They dated me 9 weeks along. Without that last bit, they wouldn't have done an u/s.

I met with a nurse who had me pee into a cup to confirm my pregnancy. Then she figured out my EDD with my last period. I got a lot of paperwork and had blood drawn.

Definitely a lot of paperwork full of medical history and stuff like that, a dating ultrasound, a PAP, and blood work. I got a bunch of handouts and information on the hospital I'll be delivering at as well.

Prenatal intake for me at about six weeks was just a lot of paperwork and had a ton of blood drawn. I also did the 1-hour glucose tolerance test at that time. I'm not sure how common this is, though.

The first one with my OB was when we did the transvaginal dating scan and saw the baby, but come to think of it, she didn't point out the heartbeat! She did say everything looked good and safe.

My first appointment was at 6 weeks, so they just confirmed the pregnancy and then the doc checked my cervix and uterus. They also took some blood. First ultrasound was at 8 weeks, had the tummy ultrasound and then met with the OB nurse. She went over medical history with DH and I and things to do and don't do. I gave more blood as well. I didn't even see a doctor that time.

They did a transvaginal u/s, and we got to see the baby and see (not hear) its heartbeat. They also took a million vials of blood.

@MrsLilybugg: Yeah, they said they wanted to see me between 8 and 10 weeks, but since we are going away for Christmas on Tuesday, I really wanted to ask my questions first so I know what I should or shouldn't be doing. Like, airport security-- pat down? Reg X ray? Good luck on Tuesday!

@Foodnerd81: how exciting! I have my first apt. on Tuesday! It's crazy how they make you wait so long. I mean, I "get it" - there's not much to see early on. But I still wanted to make sure everything was OK! I'll be 10 weeks for my first.

They did a transvaginal dating ultrasound and a pelvic exam and sent me away with an order for bloodwork to have done at a lab. They also gave me some standard reading material like what OTC meds are ok to take for certain stuff, area pediatricians, the standard "visit" prenatal schedule, etc.

I got blood work, they asked a lot about history of me, as well as DH and they did the internal ultrasound! I did have a pap but that was because it had been 8 months since my last one.

They did an u/s (both abdominal and transvaginal) at my first appointment, but only because I'd had a recent-ish miscarriage. They drew some blood, went over the major Do and Donts, asked for some medical history from both of us (DH was there), and gave me a lot of information about what to expect from them during my pregnancy (optional testing, ultrasounds, the hospital we'd be delivering at, etc).

They did do a dating ultrasound at my first appt. They also asked a lot of med history type questions, and ordered bloodwork! Good luck!

I'm excited to finally have my first prenatal appt with the midwife on Monday! What was your first appt like? Did they automatically do an u/s? I have a huge list of questions, I know they will do blood work, but otherwise not too sure what to expect! I was just there a month ago for my annual appt, so I don't need the pap or any of that normal annual stuff. I'll be 8 weeks on Monday, based on the O date in my chart, but I'm guessing they will go by LMP which will make me a few days further along, probably.
