@Mrs. Jacks: I feel like DS keeps trying to sign "all done" when I'm feeding him, but he cries if I take his food away. :) So either he's signing but doesn't actually understand the concept, or he is just waving around and I am interpreting that to be signing! But his daycare provider mentioned this morning that she had noticed it too, so I really don't know...

@Honeybee: what a great first sign! Ours was more at about 6 months. M understands the sign for milk but hasn't done it yet.

@Mrs. Jacks: What was the first word Lala signed?

DD first signed "snow" at 9 months (fitting, right?) and then her first consistently spoken word was "dog" pretty soon after that.

LO says "hi" and "yeah!" all the time and it always seems conversationally appropriate but I know he's just babbling. He's not yet 4 months, so we have a while to go. I am very excited about it!

Her first word was "oh oh!" when she dropped something. She was saying dada and mama first but I don't really count those.

Lala's was "hi" at about 7 months. M. is 7 months and hasn't yet started babbling. It's amazing how different each baby is!

For about a month, she's babbled "da da da", but last night she crawled around saying "mammmammmamama". I know she's not talking yet, but it's super exciting to think about her saying our names.

@belleoftheballe: I always hear my lo say hi too. But I know it's not on purpose.

Sounds like a lot of babies say mama first ...I always heard it's easier to say Dada so that usually comes first. Now I have hope!

Her first word was"ma!" it's also the most consistent word she use! Much to my delight!

My son's first word was mum-mum. Now he says dada and uh-oh as well. I've heard hi once but i think it was a fluke. Sometimes I hear babababa...

I had a dream last night that my LO said "oink" as her first word. It's pretty fitting, as her nursery theme is pigs so she's surrounded by them, and she actually came out at birth snorting. They said her poor little nose was probably a little shmooshed during delivery. I knew she'd fit well in her new piggy room at least :)

My LO is way too young to talk, but she has accidently said "mama" once when she was crying. I know she had no idea what she was saying, but it was still exciting!

What was your LO's first word?
