@Dandelion: Hehe I think I'd be okay with kitty too! I have a nephew whose first word was "Meow"!

E's was Mama, but both me and D are "mama".

For L it was "dada" and "dat" which is what she called the cat for the longest time.

We are actually going through a bit of nostalgia because she's starting to say all her words correctly and not her cute little mispronunciations any more and it's making me sad!

M is 7 months and she has said three things that sound like words: "hi" "yeah" and "mama". She will sometimes repeat hi back to you on command. Mama is the only one that I *think* she used purposefully. One night she woke up in the middle of the night and hubs tried to calm her and she was just wailing maaaaammmaaaaaaaa and she stopped crying as soon as I came in and took her.

Evelyn has said "hi" for several months now, since she was probably 7 or 8 months. Now she's 13 and it's still the only one!

Mama (usually while whining) then Dada (always happy) then cat (with a long drawn out A while rubbing his fingers together) around 11 months. At 13 months he's added a few more words but doesn't use them consistently.

Her first word was Hi. She was saying mama and dada before but we think she was just repeating it because she would call anything and everything mama and dada but she would say Hi as soon as someone walked into the room.

Ellie's was Mama (around 11 months). Lorelei's was 'poop' around 7.5 months. I didn't want to count it, but she clearly knew what it meant and was using it in context, so...

I think language acquisition is just such a fascinating topic!

Papia...which is the way my son calls my husband. In Swiss German, it's Papi, but I don't know where he got the "a" at the end. I am "Mamia" and he calls himself "Gegia."

Way more than anyone wants to know, lol.

Charlie's was very clearly ball just before he turned 1. With Olive, her use of words was more inconsistent so it was a little harder to tell when she really knew a word and what it meant rather than just repeating us. Her first word was probably uh oh around 11 months as well.
