We stocked him up on food before we left for the hospital and he was fine until we got home (we were gone less than 48 hours). I went to the hospital around 10 pm and my parents couldnt get there until the next morning so I felt awful having my dog spend the night alone. He was fed and was let out to potty so he was physically fine but I hated for him to sleep alone. We figured he would have time to grab a snack and let the dog out once I was admitted. DH had a work friend stop by after work (late night) and we had friends vacationing here in FL who had a rental car and they also did the daytime trips to take them out. It was really nice. Since I had an emergency induction a week early as in I went to the hospital and did not return home for 5 days.... the house was not as organized as I would have liked it. She cleaned, stocked our fridge and took care of the dogs. It was a huge convenience. I don't know if you have any alternatives to boarding but we've only boarded our dog once and she came home with two different illnesses. It was really nice of them, our dog is quite a handful and doesn't get along with one of their dogs! It also allowed me time to heal before I had to take her out on my own. When I was in labour with DS, my parents kept the dog for us.
