Fruits that start with P are supposed to help things move along, you can also introduce prunes, that always helped my son.

@BoogieBea: My lo is having the same problem. He loooooooooooves solid. I think I went overboard on the solids as he sometimes goes a day or two without pooping and my milk supply seems to be decreasing :( Im going to limit the solids a little bit and increase nursing to see if that helps.

So far, LO has had oatmeal cereal, butternut squash, pears, avocado, japanese pumpkin. Though she's liking everything she's eating and always opens her mouth for more, her digestive system doesn't seem to be agreeing. She's straining to poop now, so I'm cutting back on solids for a few days to see if that will help.

I make all of LOs baby food & stuck with the more traditional route. She began having organic chicken pureed & then mixed with a veggie at around 8.5 months. She is 9 months & just started finger foods a few weeks ago. So far she has had organic puffed cereal, whole grain o's, small pieces of banana & avacado, etc but the picking it up is still a bit of a trick :) I really like wholesomebabyfood.com & the book "The Best Baby Food On the Planet" for ideas & information.

@artbee: those kinds of snacks aren't available where I live, so we tried them out when visiting my parents over Christmas. I was so excited for him to try the yogurt melts, he picked it up, put it in his mouth and spit it out. He eats regular yogurt, so I'd rather him have that, to be honest. Puffs are great if you want them to practice their pincher grasp, since they are dry and don't slip around like bits of fruit or softly cooked vegetables. But, again, my son didn't like them, so instead he practiced with some small bits of toast.

@BabyLove: At first we thought our LO just didn't understand... but then you can tell from her face that she does not love it. And then she'll throw a temper tantrum when she's done, hitting her fists on the table and all. It's quite cute. Good luck!

@artbee- that's pretty much where most of our LO's cereal ended up too. I think she wanted to swallow it, she just had no idea what was going on. Haha. And then she turned her attention to anything but eating and we called it a day. We;re gonna try again tonight. I figure since we'll do it every other day for a little while.

@Rubies: I'm so jealous your LO loves food! Mine still spits it out and makes a face. Although I'm not sure if it's the actual food or the weird/different textures of solids. We went from brown rice cereal, peas, carrots, and in a couple of days will be sweet potatoes, then apples. I didn't want to do sweet veggies and fruit so soon, but I want her to like food! Oh, and my doctor's example for eating meat was meatloaf! I don't think he realizes meatloaf usually has bread crumbs in it... because he said no wheat.

@Looch... I've been debating on getting some of the "traditional" baby snacks like mum mums and puffs. Honestly... I don't want to have to pay for them, I'm going a cheaper route by making her food. But I guess if she loves it then it would be worth it.

@Babylove: we're about a week in with solids and she still eats very little. She'll take about 5 spoonfulls, but most of it ends up on her bib.

We gave LO meat at 6 months and she liked it. She gets mostly fruit and veggie with cereal though and at 8 months only 2x a day. She's not really a huge cereal fan so we mix it in with other things. She still gets a lot of purees but we also sometimes just mash what we're having with a fork and give some to her. The problem is I like food spicy so it's only the bland food she gets and anything with lots of ingredients I still hesitate to give her. She's starting to get more interested on having what's on our forks and plates now though.

It seems strange for me too, to just blend our meal. Our ped. recommended the same thing. We haven't introduced solids yet, but I think I'll do as you're doing. We did give her some cereal on Saturday. It was the cutest thing. She responded well to it, but only ate a very, very small amount- to be expected I guess.

I think, ultimately, ya just gotta do what you wanna do :) Your babes will be happy, healthy and well fed regardless!

We started with rice cereal for about 4 days just to get used to the idea of the spoon. We switched to oatmeal, with fruit, which he loves and eats almost every day.

At first I was pretty religiously following the list of what a baby should eat per month, but I kind just started giving him whatever since he didn't have any reactions. My ped suggested to begin with meat too, we started that when I introduced the second meal around dinner.

At 13 months, he's had almost everything, including eggs, which he loves. He doesn't like the traditional baby snacks like yogurt melts, puffs, etc, which is fine by me.

well, we tried the traditional puree route with frutis and veggies. We'd occasionally give her yogurt puffs and rice puffs (little bugger is picky, she will only eat the organic kind now that shes tasted them lol.) ever since she started chewing on the puffs, shes totally rejected purees and only wants chunks, so we're going to start BLW (baby led weaning) in a week or so. She had a rough week and rejected ALL solids, so we'll go again when she tells us its time. But our doctor also said its fine to go with meats from the get go.

Our doctor said the same thing! He's like, "If you want, you can even give her meat." I was like, "Whaaaaaaaaaa?" He said as along as we're giving her iron-rich foods then it doesn't matter what we give her (but he did stick to the "no honey, eggs, milk" thing).

I'm totally iffy about the meat thing and going totally traditional. So far we've tried: butternut squash (loves), banana (loves), avocado (tolerates), rice cereal (loves), and pear (loves!).

Next on our list? Sweet potato.

I started with puree'd fruits and veggies. At around 9 months I started giving her more savory item puree'd since chunkier foods made her constipated.

At 10 months she doesn't get to eat everything we eat.

We didn't start with table food and only did 1 meal a day then 2 then 3. I would think it's just harder to determine if there are any allergies present if you give them a whole bunch of different foods at once? Plus their tummies are still sensitive.

My doctor said we can have lo eat anything that's not on the do not eat list and she could eat 3 meals a day right away. He said food isn't for nutrition until she's one, right now it's just for funsies.

Still, we started with the traditional rice cereal and are slowly adding different veggies. I feel weird putting our dinner in the blender to serve to lo even though the doctor OKed it.

Did you start with table food or are you going the traditional route too?
