@Sammyfab: I remember daycare mentioning she was fighting naps, but that was weird since back then she was waking up at 6am! It was 11:30am before, but now pushed back to noon. I wonder if i can ask them to push her nap to 12:30pm since she's now waking up at 7am? I feel like 6.5 hours is a long time to stay awake. Your observation makes a lot of sense!!

I feel like this may be the right bedtime because i don't remember the last time she woke up at 7am!

It sounds like your LO is ready for a later bedtime. My son (at that age) used to go down at 7:30p and gradually his bedtime started getting later and later until he started to go down at 8:30. And not because we changed it, he just wouldn't go down as quickly as he used to. No matter what time we put him down, he would fall asleep at 8:30. He's 3 now and has a 8:30-9 bedtime because he won't go down any earlier.

@Freckles: we had a few days where my LO was going to bed between 8-8:30 because he was waking up after 8am and taking long naps...I hated the later bedtime!

I would say that if she is mucking around for at least 30 minutes (at minimum) then I would push her bedtime back. I've read that they start to take a bit more time to unwind for bed at this age. My LO takes anywhere from 5-30 minutes to fall asleep.

Also, it sounds like she needs 13-ish hours of sleep a day? I'm assuming nap is at a set time at daycare? For my LO, if he wakes up late and has less awake time before his nap, he needs more awake time before bed so that he gets about the same amount if awake time everyday. Hope that makes sense!

@Freckles: It's kind of funny, because a few months ago I posted on another thread (or maybe I started it?) about trying to push back bedtime because summer was coming up and I wanted him to stay up longer to have more activity time. And now that it's happening, I'm all, "I need more time to myself!!" Careful what you wish for, I guess. :)

Yup, going through it, too at 16 months! Normal bedtime is 7pm, but he's been fighting until at least 8. But he also has been consistently napping for 3 hrs a day, too. I've been letting him stay out of bed until 7:30 and the letting him pitch a fit for 20 minutes or so until he falls asleep. I don't know if I'm a fan yet of a later bedtime, but 8 pm might happen.

We are going through something similar. Normal bedtime was 6pm but lately she's been fighting for closer to 7pm. Same signs...fits galore and tossing/turning in bed for up to 45 mins.

No idea but we're having the same issue. We put C down at 7 and she's usually awake until after 8, sometimes closer to 9.

C is 16 months too.

Previously, LO's bedtime was anywhere between 6:45 and 7:30pm. But for a week now (LO is 16 months), she's wide awake at 7, and cries when we try to get her to sleep. Yesterday, DH said, "okay, it's time to go to bed" and LO had a fit!! I thought it was separation anxiety, but maybe it's just that she doesn't want to go to bed yet? She had a 1.5 hour nap that ended at 1:30pm.

She's been falling asleep a little after 8pm, and sleeping until about 7-7:15am. I'm thinking this may be the right bedtime since she's getting a good stretch of sleep, whereas in the past, she'd wake up at 5am if we put her to bed a little later.

What were the signs that it was time to push back your LO's bedtime?
