The two's didn't seem too bad for us - there were definite phases where she'd be a crankypants, but she always came out of it and would go onto have weeks of good behavior. We never experienced a tantrum in a public setting or any tantrum lasting more than a few minutes long. I don't know what to compare it to so I'll just say that the two's have been better than expected. We'll see what the 3's have in store.........

Eta: like Mrs. Wagon mentioned above, we also had "terrible entering the two's time"... around 18-23 months were the toughest ever!!

At 18 months we had our first "throw ourselves on the floor in public" experience. She is also really testing our boundaries but so far we haven't given in to anything.

18 months was the beginning of a really tough time for us. I think it had a lot to do with speech and communication frustrations and a lot of general boundary testing. We're just coming out of it now, at 3 years old.

@Rubies: haha... comparing tantrums to contractions... that is awesome. Well, not awesome. But awesome.

Wagon Jr. went through somewhat of a terrible entering-the-twos. Between 15-20 months or so. Then we had a wonderful golden period where he was just fantastic. The threes were worse, but by then he was able to talk back and forth with us. So much more manageable than the straight up screaming tantrum stuff.

LMW is starting up with it. Not fun. She's 16 months going on 14 years. Mealtimes are a teary mess for us. She always wants to eat by herself, but when she can't (soup, etc) she totally freaks out. We have to stick with foods she can pick up and eat by herself.

So, the 18 month tantrums are nothing compared to the terrible 2's? Please say I'm wrong...

DD is 28 months and I really want to cry. I was telling my friend that her tantrums are like contractions: 5 minutes apart, unbearable, and you feel like dying. Our experience with the terrible twos is proving to be...well, terrible.

Charlie never really went through the terrible twos. The threes were a lot more terrible, but different than if he were two since he was completely verbal.

I don't know what's up with Olive, but I'm wondering if she's in her terrible 2's? She has been throwing tantrums over everything multiple times a day the past couple of weeks. She's generally a cranky mess, and wakes up cranky after naps too. I understand that she gets frustrated at times because she can't fully communicate her needs and transitions are always tough for little kids, but often the tantrums really seem to have no reason at all!

Is this the terrible two's? What were they like for you?
