@Happygal: I hope that will be the case! Poor babes and their sleep, though!

@Anya: Thanks! It just goes to show you never can tell... :silly:

Hee hee! I saw this post and thought, "Oh, I had lots of those!" Took a minute to realize it was my old thread!

She does take a bottle from others, although it took a little coaxing in the beginning. She is now in a small, in-home daycare, and she honestly doesn't get all the sleep she needs. It is hard b/c I pick her up around the time she would normally be going down for another nap, so she often goes downhill quickly. I'm trying to power through it.

@FliegepilzHut: I now feel like I'm sending my girl to a party every day. She LOVES being social and hanging out with other children. I hope your babe will feel the same!

@FliegepilzHut: Good luck! I was worried that my child wouldn't sleep at all and I sent a ton of extra milk thinking she'd eat for comfort. Instead, she refused to eat for the first few days and slept a ton!

SLEEEEPPPINNNNG, period.

While DD had gotten great about falling asleep at night and STTN, for naps she still needs to be held/rocked/bounced and then has white noise. (or when we're out she naps in the Ergo).

To ease the transition we are doing half days right now so she can take her 2nd nap at home. We're only in week 2, and she def has to be held to sleep and will only nap for 30-40 min for her first nap. So I hope the teacher doesn't get sick of holding her! I have NO idea when she will get better about napping there. Maybe not till she moves to the toddler room..

@blackbird: My daughter was SO the Nightmare Baby. I was worried they would not be as loving to her because of that but I think it was the opposite. They worked so hard to get through the separation anxiety that they are very proud of how far she has come, and I love the relationship she has with her favorite teacher in particular! That teacher WORKED for it!

Ethan's first day of daycare I was super nervous, but not really about him being taken care of, more me! I wanted to make sure his provider knew everything there was to know: how much did he take in a bottle, how I warmed it up, that it had to be the perfect temp (or he wouldn't take it), when/how he sleeps, eats, etc. My advice is to just write it all down for her when you drop it off so you can't forget anything.
Ethan did great at daycare, he smiles when he sees his provider, and all the kids love him. (he's 4 months).
He DID however get sick 3 days after starting. Boo.

I had plenty. Would i pump enough milk at work? Would she cry all day? Would she nap for them? (she didnt nap for me) One of the four teachers in her room really took to her from day one. I was so relieved when i would come in at the end of the day and she was always being held or played with by Miss Kayla. LO has grown by leaps and bounds since being in daycare over the past year. She's social and has learned so many concepts, has had a huge language explosion. I love that she's only 10 minutes from me at work if theres an emergency and they always have fun activities planned

I was nervous about all the things on your list. The soothing was fine from day one (she took to her caregivers immediately), she got the bottle figured out by day 3, and the naps eventually fell into place (I did have to learn to stop stressing about them though. It took many months for her to get on a real schedule). I also learned to like pumping (or at least to enjoy the break in my day).

My other big struggle was guilt. I think my first post here was about that, right after I went back to work. But I soon realized that LO loved daycare and I am a better mom when I am working. Good luck to you!

I worried she would have separation anxiety and cry all day, and that her caregivers would not be able to comfort her. This turned out to be true and it was very hard. I did worry that they would not love on her and get impatient. From everything I could gather, they tried so hard and were very, very loving. I will always love her school for how wonderful they were and are with her!

I was worried about his routine since it was just him and me for 3 months. I "KNEW" my baby and they didn't. He adjusted to their schedule just fine, and I ended up following their schedule instead.

I was also worried he wouldn't know I was mommy since he was spending more time with them than me at such a young age (10 hours). At pickup and home, he always knew who I was.

I was very worried about it. I was most worried that she would get upset and nobody else would able to soothe her and that she might feel scared being left with strangers but neither of those things were an issue.

Good luck with the transition.

DD doesn't go to daycare, but I was worried about so many things too! Since I was primarily her caretaker, I wondered if other people (DH, my mom, my MIL) would know how to handle her (and they all do it a lil diff, but it works). She did hate the bottle for a while, but now she actually prefers bottle over me! I was worried about pumping, but that I'm still taking day by day as my supply isn't great. I def just have to let go a lil bit... I just have to think that she might not have a "perfect" day with me anyway, so some days I just have to accept that she eats/sleeps bad.

@Mrs. Coral: I understand this feeling 100%. This morning as I was soothing her when she was crying and staring at my face, I thought about how I've really been the main one to do this for her. I think that it's healthy to branch out and have attachments with other caregivers, so that's what I have to remind myself of!

@mfa_lady: thank you for this encouragement. It's nice seeing someone go before you and do well. You're girl still looks as happy and healthy as ever!

@Punky: I'm glad daycare has been positive you for as well. I'd like to think this nanny will come up with new tips and tricks to get her to sleep and what not that I hadn't considered.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: good luck with the upcoming arrival of your baby! And maybe you can come back here in 4 months to read more words of encouragement.

Not having a routine and getting enough attention were probably my two biggest concerns about daycare. Well daycare ended up actually getting her into a routine which was great and she gets so much attention there it's awesome. The kids love her because she's the smallest one there (it's an in home daycare with 6 other kids that are ages 2-6, my daughter is 1) and the two caregivers adore her. She always seems happy there, she gets excited when I drop her off in the morning and is always smiling and engaged with other kids when I pick her up. I love seeing the new skills she picks up and the friends that she is starting to make. It's great to see the interactions.

Hey, friend! First of all: you're going to rock it. You will do great, J will do great, and you'll settle into it in no time. I had all the same anxieties you did--we also had no real routine, but now after two weeks of E being at the sitter's...WE DO! Haha. It's amazing, really. We're still waking up at all hours, and I'm still exhausted all the time, but I'm really happy with our situation. Like you, we had family and friends help out my first two weeks back, and now she's at the sitter's every day. I'll be thinking about you next week!

Bumping this for you, as I am getting nervous too. I feel like we picked a really great daycare, and I'm not nervous about being away from LO. I'm just nervous she won't get enough love and attention. I know I'm overthinking things. Most importantly I know she will be safe and her basic needs will be met. I'm just nervous about the nurturing.

I go back to work on Monday. I think we've found a great nanny and family will be here the first week to help with the transition. I'm still anxious about her taking a bottle, going down for naps (we don't really have a routine), and being successfully soothed by someone else. For myself--getting out the door and pumping. And we're still up every 3 hours or so and she's currently in a fussy growth spurt!

What were you nervous about? How did things turn out?
