My #1 criterion -- The car seat must have cow print (i.e. any Britax carseat in "cowmooflage"). Seriously. Oh... and it must have top safety ratings too!

same as everyone else. We ended up with the Britax Boulevard CS (Click Safe). Recaro is nice too. I went to Target and to a boutique-type store, both to figure out why there were so many types of convertibles and also why there was such a price difference. I mean, does less expensive mean less safe? Not necessarily, but i did notice that some of the fabrics and materials used in the less expensive car seats were not as nice. Some seats didn't seem as comfortable for the LO as others. So other than name, reputation, safety...we considered how comfortable and cushy it would be since the little guy would potentially be in it for a few years.

Same as everyone else, pretty much... ended up with a last season Britax Marathon on sale and are totally happy with it. We got hand-me-down Britax Roundabouts and Boulevards from Rob Sr.'s cousin, and we plan to use those as backups for a future second car and grandparents' cars when they visit. Comparing them in real life, I'd be happy with the Roundabout as well, and the Boulevard seems HUGE but everyone I know who has one is totally happy with it!

We just got our convertible car seat but have not yet switched DD over. We went with the Britax Blvd because of reputation, size, features, & others great reviews of it. I hope it works out for us as well as it has for others we have talked to & others on here!!

I did some research online including reviews. I was happy with our britax infant seat and the boulevard got good reviews. It also has a good height and weight limit.

I looked at the safety ratings on consumer reports and the ease of use ratings on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NTSA has an awesome chart that can be found here:
http://www.nhtsa.gov/nhtsa_eou/info.jsp?type=all

We ended up using the First Years True Fit Recline in my hubby's car and the Diono Radian R120 for my jeep.

Same as PPs, we have the Britax Blvd. No regrets so far.

Reputation (safety, reliability) was the main criteria for me. We went with the Britax Blvd and love it.

For me, it was the same criteria as Pelikila. Ultimately, we went with the Britax Blvd as our seat. We use another separate convertible for air travel, the Cosco Scenera.

For us it was based on (in no particular order) reputation, size, features, weight range, etc. We were initially waffling between the Britax Boulevard and the Recaro Pro Ride. We went and had them placed into my vehicle (since it is the smallest) and looked at how it fit and chose to go with the Recaro and are really happy.

I've been dreading researching convertable seats, but I know we need to also so I'm excited for this thread. I really don't know what to look for. I know we're going to be traveling with it, but not often so I hate to base my entire decision off of that.

I think LO has a bit longer in her infant seat but she's quickly outgrowing it and we're on the largest setting for straps now. I thought her infant seat would last us at least a year but maybe not and I haven't researched anything about convertible carseats yet!
What did you look for when buying a convertible carseat?
