@FutureMrsMcK: I'm surprised by my attachment to DS as well. When family is around, I let everyone else hold him when I'm not feeding him, but I do feel a little jealous! Also, the thought of sending him to daycare in a month when i go back to work makes me cry every time! I didnt think I'd be that emotional.

In fact, that was the biggest surprise for me. I've never felt so many different emotions, so intensely, and in such close proximity! I felt like I belonged in a looney bin for the first month!

I was surprised by how easily breastfeeding came to us (and very, very grateful, I know it's not always the case) and by how much I enjoy it.

I was also surprised by how little I cared about getting peed or pooped on. I've lost count of how many times I've slept on a puddle of blanket-covered pee and not cared.

I think I've been most surprised by how attached I am to him. We left him for the first time yesterday (with my SIL) to see a movie, and two hours in I was anxious and antsy to be holding him again.

@travelgirl1: this, too has surprised me. It's all encompassing and I'm a hot emotional mess if I dwell on it.

Hah mine was the complete opposite. I was surprised by how much I hated breastfeeding! I am just now (4 weeks postpartum) starting to feel a mere dislike towards it.

I didn't have alot of preconceived notions before DS but after him I kinda thought all babies were like him.... Easy going & thrived on a schedule. Little did I know all babies really are different! Lol. P is on the high needs side & a parent led schedule just made things worse. I'll never make that mistake again! Lol

I was surprised by how intensely I love her. I know that sounds weird and obviously I knew I'd love her but was so not prepared for the total heart melt I've felt since the second I laid eyes on her.

The cluster feeding was a huge surprise to me. I guess I just assumed babies were on a schedule since they were born and would eat once every few hours. I was SO wrong about that one haha.

Ha, mine is that I had no idea how difficult breatfeesing would be. Or how painful. I also didn't realize that newborns really don't DO that much other than sleep and eat...I've been surprised by how much I can get dOne while he's sleeping.

Same! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved breastfeeding bc years before I even THOUGHT about giving birth, one mom told me that breastfeeding is even harder than labor/delivery. I just had it in my mind for so long that it would be the most difficult thing, but that didn't turn out to be the case for me.

It took a few days for us to figure out why she was crying...hungry, cold, dirty diaper. Things were so much better and less stressful once we figured that out!

Before Baby Trikester arrived, I was sure I'd dislike breastfeeding - everything made it sound like frustrating, stressful work. I was prepared to suck it up and carry on like martyr, but instead, I LOVE breastfeeding. Watching the baby nurse fills my heart with love (ok, obviously some postpartum hormones talking, but I can't help it) and it's quickly become my favorite bonding time.

What were some of your first surprises about motherhood?
