Robe is a great tip.. I bought a nice one to wear at the hospital but ended up wearing it so much during the entire first year. It was really handy for breastfeeding since its chilly in the winter in just a nursing tank or bra!

Comfy nursing tanks from Target and comfy pants for lounging those first three months. Showering and drying my hair. The second part takes a while but man it felt good to be clean and done!

In the newborn days I remember how much I just wanted to take a shower or a bath, I would have DH watch LO, and that was really my only relaxing "me" time. I felt so refreshed afterwards!

New jeans, even if they won't fit for long. Just get cheap ones because the sooner you're out of maternity pants the happier you will be. High waisted until the tummy goes down.

I took two baths every day in the first few weeks, it was good for my healing vajayjay and my 15-20 minute break to just relax and not worry about taking care of the baby.

Buy the expensive toilet paper. Usually I cheap out and go store brand there, but the expensive stuff was so worth it when you are sore and a hot mess down there.

Something I never would have considered if my mil hadn't been ruining errands for us.

Most days I shower and put my face on and regular ppl clothes... even if I'm not leaving the house, it makes me feel like a human being.

I've been wearing the belly bandit and honestly, it's the most comfortable thing for my back too! (in addition to the aesthetic benefits of sucking the flab in)

Monday I have an eye dr appt and it'll be the first time I leave the house sans baby... I plan on running a few errands and stopping by sephora to replenish some makeup :)

I bought pretty but cozy pajamas and yoga pants from VS for both the hospital and the weeks pp. I knew that I'd be recovering and wanted something pretty and new to lounge in.
I agree with taking a nice long shower and enjoying it. That felt so good.
And I got my hair done a few weeks after, felt so nice to get my hair colored and a nice blow out after having a baby.

I agree with the other ladies who said showers and making showers special. I remember the early days when showering really was the only time I had to myself. I promised myself I would shower every day after my LO arrived and I've kept that promise, and it has kept me sane! When I was 7 days postpartum, showers made me feel like a new person!

I had stuff that made my showers really nice and enjoyable - nice shampoo and body wash and face soap. I really started appreciating my showers once it wasn't guaranteed that I would get to take one every day. And although eating or sleeping will be tempting, try to take the chance to take a shower when you can.

I bought some cute lounge pants since that is what I wear majority of the time. I also bought some bigger jeans b/c I couldn't stand wearing my mat jeans pp. it helped me not feel so frumpy. I also enjoy washing my face and straightening my hair most days. Makes me feel a bit more human.

@PrincessBaby: Prior to delivery, I bought these to wear around the house. You basically need something that will hold your nursing pad in and make it easy to nurse.

Nothing depresses me more than the *thought* of jeans with a panel..yuck!! That's the ER thing I did for myself:) throw that ish in a Rubbermaid container and his it away from sight.

@MrsRcCar: What nursing bras did you end up with and did you wait to do that until your milk came in? I have zero nursing bras at this point and I'm so confused about what to have on hand when she is born...Everyone says to wait until milk comes in to buy good bras, but I don't know what to do until then....

@scg00387: I researched it online and I found a lot of people saying they wore both at the same time so I figured- what the hell, I'll go for it too! I'll be walking around wrapped up like a mummy! Btw, it's on Diapers.com right now for super-cheap...Like $33 or something I think is what I got it for!

I am no help since I'm still pregnant, but I'm really curious how the shrink-x works for you @princessbaby ! I bought 2 of the belly bandits since I read you have to size down quickly but feel like I wouldn't end up being able to walk if I wore both that & the hips one after looking at pictures... but I am sad to imagine my hips getting any wider since they are already proportionately wide for my frame (and I don't want to buy all new jeans!!)

Honestly the best thing I got myself pp was a great fitting nursing bra. It is amazing how much a great bra can make you feel normal. Also taking a nice long shower while DH watched the baby, that way I could shave and just relax in the hot water. I am on of the lucky few who PP was already smaller then pre-pregnancy size. The other thing that made me feel great was getting out of my maternity clothes.

Did you have any items for yourself that either you would have died without, or things that made you feel a little better about yourself? A product you used, maybe to get rid of stretchmarks, or an item of clothing?

Or did you do anything, just for yourself, that helped you feel better about yourself PP?

I bought the Belly Bandit and Hip Shrinkx to try to compress things back into place after reading suggestions on that, and I've read things like it helps having a nice robe to wear around the house so you felt a little prettier but didn't have to get dressed....Or an article of clothing you could throw on that made you feel a little more pulled-together....Anything like that?

Just wondering if anything helped YOU with YOU to try to get back to your old self again!
