I think I'll let our kids decide when the time comes. My grandparents were Nana & Grandpa and Granna & Grandaddy. I always loved having a Grandaddy :-)

Our nephews call my in-laws "Nana" and "Pops" so we'll go with that for them. We told my mother she can be called whatever she wants. Our nieces and nephews on my side call her "Grandma Katie" and I think she's leaning towards that. I'm pushing for her to be called "Grams" though, because that's what I call my grandmother.

The nieces and nephews call my Dad and stepmom "Gumba" and "Gam-ma". We don't really see my Dad and SM, though, so they might just end up be "Grandpa Jon" and "Grandma Connie".

Our baby will be the first grandchild on both sides, so I'm not sure what our parents will want to be called. MIL said my mom gets first dibs on names, and I told her to figure it out among themselves, I don't want to mediate a name discussion!

I loved my Nana so much, and I wish that either my mom or MIL would want to be a Nana to my future kids, but neither does. I don't know if it will change, but both my mom and mil call themselves Grammy to the dog (they call him their granddog :) )

My parents are Korean, so they'll probably go by the Korean words (Halmuhnee - Grandma; Halabuhji - Grandpa).

Hubby's parents are Caucasian, so they'll probably go by grandma, grandpa or some variation of the form; whatever they're comfortable with...

It will be the first grandchild on both sides, so our future baby will be spoiled rotten by both sets of grandparents regardless of what he calls them! :P

My parents and in-laws never had a preference so my daughter calls them all Grandma and Grandpa. She calls my grandma GG because my cousin's kids do.

Since my in-laws are Chinese and my parents are Korean, I figured that they could just be called the respective words in their native languages...

But what I didn't know is that the Chinese (more specifically, the Cantonese) word for grandma is "mama."

This used to REALLY bother me. But I've since let it go since Claire knows me by the Korean word for mommy, "umma" and that's different enough from "mama."

Ugh. My mom picked Oma, which is grandma in German (and we're not even German). I think she's effin nuts. We were all set with Nan, and then one of my sister's lame friends had to throw that one out there and my mom latched onto it like glue. My dad is going to be Pop, with MIL as Nana and SFIL as Jackass (just kidding, sort of, he really is a jackass though...), FIL as Papa T (his name is Travis) and SMIL as Donna, probably (which is her real name). We definitely run the gamut on names! I just wanted to avoid the typical southern mamaw and papaw. I hated calling my grandparents that as a kid, since all my Yankee Massachusetts friends made fun of me!

My nieces have paved the way for this. They tried to be Grandma and Pop but my niece started calling them "Gaga" and "Buck." It stuck! Now, I can't imagine them being called anything else. I'm not sure what my MIL will want to be called. Her mom was Nonny so maybe she will go with that.

My parents have had their grandparent nicknames picked out for awhile (despite no babies on the horizon). Growing up, my mom's parents were always Beema and Poppey to us and even my friends growing up called them that. So, my own parents want semi-unique names for themselves, so my Mom will be "Lady" (a variation on a nickname we have for her) and my Dad will be "Pop" (because it sounds good with Lady). Not sure what my husband's 2 sets of parents will be called yet though.

We let our parents pick. My parents picked Grandma and Grandpa First Names and my inlaws Picked Grandma and Grandpa Last Name. My biological father picked just plain ol Grandpa but we'll probably use last name to distinguish between which grandpa we're talking about. The only one we picked for was my grandmother, baby's great grandma- she'll be called G.G. (for great grandma). I grew up calling my great grandmother Grammy and my mom is pushing for my grandma to be called that as well but we like GG and will probably stick with that. With that being said we all know that the baby is going to call them whatever she pleases/can actually say at any given time and we're okay with that.

I like MomMom and PopPop, but I guess we'll let our parents decide when it comes time for that. My mother is hinting about "Granny," which is definitely not my favorite.

We'll probably let our parents decide what they want to be called. I don't really care one way or the other, so I'll let them decide. My husband's parents are already grandparents (my sister-in-law has a child), so I assume they'll go by the same names for our kids that they do for hers (Grammy, Grandpa, and Mimi) and I'm assuming that my mom will use the same word her mom uses (Grammie) and my dad will use the same word his dad used (Gramps), but I guess I'll find out for sure when we're actually pregnant!

Are you picking what your child will call your parents (Grandma, Gram, Papa, Gramps, etc) or are you letting your parents choose those names? What are they going to go by?

My sister-in-law is expecting my parents' first grandchild. My Mom wants to be called Grandma. My Dad wants to be called Papa, which I think is the freaking cutest thing ever. :)
