@Mrs. Tea: In case you decide to go with training pants, One Step Ahead makes some that have a layer of PUL between two layers of fabric. They look just like trainers, have the benefit of the wetness next to the kid's skin so they feel it, but they don't soak through their pants.

@Peasinapod: This is probably exactly it!

This really has nothing to do with people not trying to be child friendly or "not having kids". It's what the center is licensed for. If it is half an hour I would probably take her and have her go to the bathroom right before it started and she would be fine.

This sounds like a rule that someone who doesn't have kids made.

I would just put her in a diaper. It's not your fault that they are ridiculous.

For a 30 minute class I would put on a diaper/pull up and call it a day.

If it were a couple hours or longer I could see but not for such a short time. And if they say something pretend you didn't read know.

I'd try to find pull-ups or a cloth diaper of some sort that looks as much like undies as possible. That way, if she has an accident nobody's going to know, but it also won't be super obvious that she's wearing a diaper. If it was a couple hours long, I would probably rather wait until my kid was actually potty-trained, but for 30 minutes I wouldn't be that concerned.

I worked at a preschool camp where the kids all had to be potty trained and it was a bit annoying when some parents ignored the rules. We weren't allowed to change diapers and it was uncomfortable for the kids. But that was a half day program. In 30 min I can't see it being a huge deal. Probably is just spillover policy of the community centre.

I agree with the others, just put a diaper on. Wanted to add as well, my friend has taught dance for years and still has semi-regular accidents with her 4 and 5 year old students at times. So, while they may want everyone potty trained, they're still going to deal with their fair share of accidents. Put the diaper on and dance!

dd started a (pre)pre-k program around 2.5/3 and while she was getting really good about telling when she had to go, we would still have an accident here and there. i remember thinking how embarrassed she would be if it happened there and they were also adament she be pottytrained. fortunately we made it with no accidents but inwent pretty hard on reminding her to let someone know when she had to go (like every morning!) and asked the people there if they did potty breaks because ate that age they ARE still learning. dont be shy to talk to someone about it, especially if this is a place she is going to be at for a while!! dont feel like you need to explain the whole thing but you're going to have to get comfortable sending her in underwear one day.

Put a diaper on and I'm assuming you're staying in the building, so can change her if needed. Potty training (esp at 2.5) should not hold a child back from participating in extra curricular activities. So ridiculous!!

I would ask how strict they are on that, and if you'll be in the room if it's ok for her to wear a diaper. I think that's a bit extreme to expect 2.5 year olds to be fully trained!

I would put a diaper on her and let that girl dance. I would interpret that rule as 'they will not/cannot change your child." I don't think that's an issue in a 30 min class. I would not put her in underwear since she might have an accident and that would be a mess.

I'd just put a nappy on her and act like you never saw the mention of potty training in the guide! If no one said anything when you signed her up I think it would be fair to assume some people might not realise they had to be potty trained.

Okay ladies, help a mama out! I signed my little one up for beginner ballet at our local community centre. It's a one a week, half hour class and it's really more about come and play and dance around since it is $7 for the four weeks.

I was double checking on the time yesterday and I noticed something one community centre activity guide. It said that all students in preschool classes for 2.5 years and up ( which this one is because parents do not participate ) must be fully potty trained and may not wear diapers or pull-ups.

My daughter is not fully potty trained. I mean it's a half hour so I can put her in underwear but we may have an accident especially since it's her first time ever not being with me in a class and I'm sure she will be nervous as it is. I will be in the room with her but just watching.

Do I pull her out and wait till is 100% trained? Throw on a diaper under her tutu and hope they don't notice? Put her in underwear and chance a puddle on the floor (she would be super upset is this happened too)

I don't know what to do about this one... I feel like it's really unfair to expect kids to be fully trained at that age for a half hour class. ( I would understand if it was longer ) She is so excited too :(
What would you do ?
