I just saw that she was sitting in your lap... if I were at a park and LO was headed for a lap baby, I'd divert him. I think that's kind of different than if a child is walking around on his/her own (then I'm pretty happy to let the kids interact on their own).

If it's a really little kid (like toddler age), I think it's cute, and I think that's kind of par for the course of bringing your kid to an area where little kids congregate. Infants and toddlers are interested in other kids, and if you don't want your child interacting with other kids, than I think you've got the options that @Looch mentioned. When I drop LO off at daycare, kids come up to him and touch him (on the face, on the arm, hugs, whatever) all the time. And LO does it to other kids. No one thinks twice about it.
With older kids, I think they should be able to be responsive to feedback from you or your LO if you discourage the attention, and they should have a better sense of personal space and social cues and such, but I still think it's pretty normal for older kids (whether 5 years old, or 12 years old) to be interested in younger kids. And while I think a 5 year old is old enough to understand personal space, I think there are plenty of benign reasons that he could be interested in a baby... maybe he has a younger sibling and is used to being able to be very familiar with a baby, maybe he is working through some developmental delays re: understanding social interactions and getting social cues, or maybe he's actually younger than you think (my boss at work has kids who are off the charts for height, and is constantly frustrated- and often embarrassed- when people assume that her three year old is five or six).

@chopsuey119: I think with the first one I would have thought it was cute. By the second one I would be like WTF?!?!

The first boy I didn't mind so much. Boy #2 was just really creepy. He was probably 5, but something about him really rubbed me the wrong way. He lurked around for literally 10 minutes! No means no little boy!!!
I tried talking to him but he totally ignored me and just tried getting to my LO. :P
I don't think I would have cared if LO was older and running around, but she was sitting in on my lap.

haha. i think it pisses me off more when it's older people. But now that Mavrick is a toddler, I don't mind as much because kids are kids. ;)

There's a little girl who lives around here that loves lo. I've seen her at the library and different events downtown. She always comes up to lo and touches her face. It does kind of bother me because I don't know where her hands have been, but I let her do it. I think it's sweet, and so far lo hasn't gotten sick after it.

For me, it would depend on how old the boy was - a 12 year old boy, eh, that might make me feel protective/upset. But if it's a young boy, I don't think I would be upset. The germ thing doesn't get me going.

I think I'd be casual enough about it if it's clearly not aggressive and the other child is not actually filthy! Germ exposure will allow LO to build immunity, child exposure builds social skills so I can't really see how it can be avoided.

@chopsuey119: Is it a germ worry or an aggression worry? I am the mom of a 16 month old boy who has been known to go up to babies and hug them. I was stunned when my son did that to a little girl, until her parents said she is usually the first to do that.

It's normal, so if you're worried, your choices ate to stay at home, keep your daughter on her stroller or carrier at all times while out in public or just monitor it. At some point, your kid might be curious too and you might find yourself in the other position.

Depends on the ages of the boys, but if it were the case that I wasn't comfortable with how they were handling my (future!) child I would say something along the lines of "LO likes it when_____ (we talk to her like this/people touch her arm right here/people make this face/ etc" and see if they do that instead. It would depend on the boys themselves but I think it sounds like they were gentle, curious kids. I can see why you might not want them touching your baby though, they've been running around at the park touching all kinds of surfaces that others have touched and maybe even bugs or whatever little creatures they find!

I probably wouldn't do anything unless the boy was being too aggressive. If he was being sweet, then that would be fine. The LO goes to daycare so I really don't care about germs very much.

My daughter has lots of boyfriends. Little boys love hugging her. Only once though was she the pursuer. She followed one of my moms neighbors kids around smacking her lips because she wanted a kiss. It was funny and bizarre all at the same time, I'd never seen her act that way and she hasn't done it again but she just kept crawling after the boy (who's about 4 and she was only like 9 months) and then giggle like crazy when he'd hug her.

If they are little kids, it seems sort of sweet. I don't know what I would do, I wouldn't think it was a big deal - so probably wouldnt do anything but talk to the little boy a bit, ask him his name or how old he is.

We were at the park today when this little boy walked up next to LO and started touching her face! I was so shocked. DH was standing behind LO so I don't think he realized this boy was touching our daughter.
When I said "why are you letting that boy touch her?!"

I don't know what DH said, but he had the funniest look on his face and chicken wing'd the boy away.

A few minutes later we were sitting on the bench, and ANOTHER boy came up to us and tried touching LO! I told him "no, please don't touch her.." But he kept trying!

Moms/parents of the boys weren't in sight.

Uh. Don't want grubby hands touching my baby. :P Not gonna lie, I kinda wanted to push/kick boy #2 away. :P
