I’d try a induction and vaginal delivery at 37 weeks.

I’m getting induced at 39w for GD and my age. DD came at 39 w for pre e and was measuring big- she was almost 8 lbs.

If your BP is normal at home and your blood work and NSTs have been normal, I would push for a vaginal delivery and not to be induced. I don’t see why they would want to induce you for high BP if it’s not actually high and you have no other signs of pre-e. I think if you’ve delivered vaginally before, I wouldn’t schedule a section based solely on baby’s size since that can be very off from measurements and ultrasounds. To be honest it sounds like your provider is a bit intervention happy.

I had a pretty similar first birth, except I ended up needing a c-section. My 2nd I was so over being horribly sick that I was excited when they scheduled me for a 2nd section at 37 weeks for high blood pressure. He ended up coming another 2.5 weeks early b/c of pre eclampsia.

So, good luck. Trust your body and yourself, and if you're not sure, trust your doc.

I was told my baby would be over 10 lbs, and she was barely 7.

If the induction is an absolute based on your BP (which doesn’t seem like it’s drastically high?) I’d opt for vaginal over C section.

I was induced for high blood pressure with my second, and it was a dream. Induced at 38 weeks. 3.25 hours from pitocin to baby in arms. If I ever have another baby, I will happily beg for an induction!

I was induced with both of mine due to high BP (first at 38w1d and second at 39w.) If I were you, I'd schedule an induction at 38 weeks, and attempt to have the baby vaginally.

We induced Claire at 37+6 because she had been consistently big from her 32 week scans and up. If it was a one off, they wouldn't have been for it, but she was growing at a steady rate and we made the call. I'm glad we did. She was 4.1kg at birth, and would have been absolutely massive (and made a vaginal delivery challenging) had we left her to her own devices!

Advice here seems good! But just wanted to add: it is entirely possible to have a big baby that early. My friend had her daughter last year at 36weeks, 11lb 6oz and no GD. It was a C-Section but no one expected her to be that big. I know US measurements are notoriously wrong for detecting birth weight, but of also really listen to the Doctor because there are definitely babies born that large.

I’d also induce at 37-37.5 to be safe, with no expectation or presumption about the baby’s size. But I’m super rah rah western medicine/get them out safely camp. C section sounds like an overcorrection to me.

I agree with trying for vaginal as late as you are all comfortable with. I think some doctors just push c sections more. And with you already having had a vaginal delivery even a bigger baby should not pose a problem. My second was 23” and 9lb 13oz (he looked like a one month old) and it was an easy recovery!

@cyoung: yeah, that's why I don't get why they'd push for a c section. At 37 weeks, he won't be that big yet! I'm in a practice with 4 docs and one of them is pushing for that. The rest seem less concerned.

I would induce at 37 just to be safe. You never know. However a c section isn't really needed. You'll be early so baby won't be 10, 11lbs. My baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead and gonna be big and doctor is inducing me at 39 weeks but I'm getting a vaginal birth.

I would do induction as late as they’ll let you, as long as the blood pressure is under control. I had high blood pressure with my first and they monitored me super closely, but ultimately my doctor allowed me to go to term because it wasn’t pre-eclampsia and wasn’t getting worse. In your case, because your BP is normal at home, I would definitely push to wait on induction because I would suspect that your higher readings at the doctor are due to some anxiety. I’ve had that problem on and off since I had my BP issues with my first.

Obviously I would take your doctor’s advice seriously, but I would mention that your BP is always normal at home and open up a dialogue that way.

I would do an induction at 37/38 weeks, whatever recommendation you get from your doctor. Since you had a successful induction and vaginal delivery you have that going for you.

I would never opt for a c-section, unless my baby was breech and wouldn’t turn. I’m unwilling to try a breech vaginal delivery. I have had a c-section and an unsuccessful induction and have had a vbac, but would choose induction over c-section first.

I would do induction the latest they will allow. I have had 2 large babies, 9.7 and 9.3 and no issues. Both of those pregnancies I had borderline HB that they were monitoring, and babies were measuring large, the measurements were right on too. The most recent one I was induced at 39 weeks and it went well, DD was 9.3 and 21 inches I think. But they induced because she was large and I am now AMA. But my first DD was born at 36 weeks and I know 37 is considered full term but my early one had the most issues. Maybe unrelated but that was my experience.

I would definitely wait longer and shoot for inductional/ vaginal. Your BP and other baby vitals sound under control. If I had a dollar for every baby "who was measuring big, so we had a c-section, and baby was totally normal" I'd be a rich person! My son measured 7lbs at 36 weeks (this was prob wrong) and was 7lb8oz when born (vaginal induction due to my anxiety- yeah. I'm nuts) at 40w2d. Like Magnolia said, maybe like 38 or 39 weeks?

I was induced at 39 weeks for high blood pressure with my second baby, who was born two months ago. I wish I had waited a little bit longer. But my baby was on the smaller size at 6lbs 6oz..

The induction was also hard on the baby - she was in distress and I almost had a c section - I gave birth in the operating room while they were prepping me for a c-section and realized I was fully dilated. So that was stressful. But I’m glad. I didn’t have a c-section.

Since you have been induced before, you have an idea of what that is like. If I were you, I would ask to be induced later if they are willing to go to 38 or 39 weeks

I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant with my 2nd.

First baby was an induced vaginal delivery at 41 weeks for suspected pre eclampsia. No major complications except a post partum hemmorage. Milk took 5 days to come in. She was 7 lb, 10 oz

In this pregnancy, I have had high blood pressure on and off since about 20 weeks. I take my BPs at home 2x a day and they are always normal at home. At the doc office, they are almost always elevated. No other signs of pre eclampsia thus far.

Baby has been measuring very large on U/S and fundal height (which i know can be way off) At 32 weeks they were projecting he'd be 11.5 lbs at 40 weeks. I have another scan next week at 36 weeks to check growth.

Since 32 weeks ive had weekly sonos to check fluids and non stress tests to check fetal heart rate with movements. All normal.

The discussions have been to most likely induce at 37 weeks because of the high blood pressure (which is the current ACOG recommendation) and to consider a scheduled c-section due to his size.

If you are in my shoes, what do you do? Induce? Ask to wait a little longer? Go for the c section or try to deliver vaginally?
