I'd put a few extra pacifiers in the crib and give him at least 15 minutes to cry and see if he soothes himself. Also, can you move your younger LO to your room for a few nights so the crying doesn't bother him? And I'd definitely drop to one nap.

At 18m our son was doing one nap but we knew it was time because he stopped falling asleep for #2 so ..... not sure on that.

Can highly recommend the green sprouts glass straw cup for no leaks. It has a plastic coating around the glass bottle so it won't break and hurt them. A bit pricey but the best cup we have found!

Also, we started letting our son sleep with his favorite stuffed animal at 18 m and it seemed to help. If we did have to go back in we would just retuck with the animal and tell them both goodnight.

One other thing to check is temperature. Sometimes being too warm can cause extra wakeups for our guy. It's hard to get all of the rooms the perfect temp in the winter, especially his which seems to get the most heat in the whole house.

Just wanted to recommend a cup, we use a B Box straw cup - and as long as I screw the lid on ridiculously tightly so that I can barely get it off again then it doesn't leak! I only put a few inches in there for overnight just in case of leaks, but so far, so good.

i would definitely drop to one nap. that alone might dramatically affect his nighttime sleep. 18 months is on the older end to be taking 2 naps a day. maybe try that first instead of cio? but dropping to one nap can take a while too!

Omg, thank goodness it's not just me. With my 14 mo old I just bit the bullet and sleep trained (again!!!!) it's a bit 2 steps forward one back. Our problem was not paci but bottles at night and he's down to getting up once (although I'm still not going to get him).

I'm going super hard line on morning being 6am at the earliest! It's so hard to let him cry but it's been the only thing that has gotten us to make any progress! For example he woke up at. 515 wanting to get up. He cried horribly for 1/2 hr and now is sleeping at 620.

No other real advice, just commiseration lol. I was getting scared about how much milk he was drinking and cavities etc

E went through a horrendous sleep regression at 18 months. She dropped a nap about a month before and we just had to ride it out for about 6 weeks. It was ridiculous. She had numerous wubbanubs in her bed, she just woke up and wanted us.

i echo other people's suggestions regarding a paci clip or multiple pacifiers, and a straw cup. if those don't work, i would try dropping a nap. hugs, this is really tough.

I would say definitely go to one nap, or at least make the second one a cat nap, or push bedtime later. At 18 months my kids needed maybe 13-14 hours sleep total so that might help the early wake up. My second LO also went through a crazy sleep regression around that age. We had to just wait it out because they share a room but it worked itself out after a month or so.

Do you have a nightlight in the room at all? It might help with him being able to find his paci. We only had one or two in the crib, with a nightlight.

We put 6-8 pacis in the crib so C can find one himself. Frankly I would leave those with a straw cup in there and then out on white noise and let him work it out. Re-sleep training him basically.

@knittylady: oh yes...the clip is no where near long enough to wind around his neck, and it's a strong metal clip, not a plastic one. We've been doing it since maybe 14 months? But of course it's what you're comfortable with.

As for the cups...we have had luck with skip hop straw cups, foo go thermos cups (as long as the straw is in properly), and even take and toss straw cups, which actually don't really leak when they're on their side as long as the straw is in the cup.

Sorry, not much advice on the other stuff, except that I know there is an 18 month regression, so maybe it will get better on its own without need for CIO (totally understand the reluctance with another baby in there!(.

@hilsy85: I've worried that it could choke him.. But you've had luck with it? Hmm..

And he only takes straw cups and I can't find one that doesn't leak all over his mattress.. Any recommendations?

First of all, I would totally put the paci on a clip and clip it to his pjs so he can easily find it--that's what we do. And what about leaving a small cup of water in his crib?

Ds1 is 18 months old and for two months or so has been having a handful (!!!) of night wake ups. We have to find his paci (which he could do himself right??? Come on!) or give him some water. Also he's up for the day at 4.

We have a three month old in the room that shares a wall and are scared to CIO for fear of disturbing HIS fragile sleep. But I feel like we have to just bite the bullet.

He goes to bed between 630 or 7 and moving up or back hasn't helped. He's still taking two naps and they typically range from 1.5-2hours. So is he ready to drop to one??? He's not fighting them but maybe he's getting too much sleep during the day??

Help!!!!!
