I'm not starting TTC until April because of this issue. Everyone I know with xmas bdays has always resented it.

before i got onto month 4 of TTC (and after accidentally conceiving my first LO i didn't think it would take any longer than i wanted ), i was all for choosing a due date. I had chosen August 2015 for my next baby to be born. that didn't happen, so i settled on September as it was still "summer weather", that didn't happen, so i was content with October as it was not close to the big holiday season yet. now if i get lucky i will have a november due date, within days of LO's birthday (which I thought I didn;t want) and next month we move onto December due date. I decided I don't care anymore. the date my next LO is born will be special and unique simply because he/she is born that day, it doesn't matter what else is close by and at I am not going to skip a few months of TTC, only to get my desired month and get a BFN!

wow you ladies are all amazing, thank you for your responses!! great to see the different opinions on it, seems the majority lean towards "go for it", but also interesting to see that there are others that would skip the cycle.

I know due dates are really not set in stone and it is one of those things that you cannot control, the joy of having a baby come in to your life would definitely make the date seem insignificant. on the flipside, people who DO have a birthday on or around x-mas maybe have a different experience of this! very interesting point on one post about the difficulty in finding a lactation consultant, duly noted! :)

speaking with hubby last night (because, obviously its not entirely up to me!) we decided we will start to TTC this cycle, and then assess if we get to the 2nd cycle and feel we should go for it next month or skip to the one after.

personally, I kind of feel I would like a december baby - at any point in december. we have 4 weeks off work annual leave every year, hubby would be home to help out and spend time uninterrupted in the early days. You would have to just make that extra effort in the future that the child doesn't feel they miss out on a birthday because of the dates clash, I think I would probably overcompensate on that front haha

I guess it depends on if you think you'll get pregnant right away? We got pregnant easily with our LO, so if we were going to have another we'd avoid a December or January EDD. But if it had been more difficult Id go for it.

I'm torn- DH had a Christmas Due date and was born on 12/27. As others have mentioned- he likes it. Everyone off school, got to have sleepovers, never bored bc of new toys, Etc.
I would hate it. We are a big birthday family so I would have not enjoyed sharing it with holiday hubbub.
I say go for it, and odds are you won't deliver that day anyway!

When we were TTC, I planned to skip the month that would give us a due date around the holidays. I would just hate to have a holiday b-day and didn't want to purposefully do that to my kid.

For my first I didn't skip any cycles because I wanted a baby more than I wanted to avoid a particular due date or holiday. For a second I would probably plan to avoid TTC in the spring, at least at first, because I would rather not have a winter baby but the holiday itself doesn't bother me.

I recently mentioned this to DH! With the way my cycles line up, we could have a December 31st due date. I'm not too sure how I feel about it. We might skip that cycle if I'm not pregnant by then.
Maybe you could ttc this cycle and if you don't get pregnant then reassess afterward? Who knows, you could get pregnant right away!

We've consistently gotten pregnant in one try (3 times) or 2 tries (once), so I personally wouldn't risk it. I definitely didn't want a Christmas baby. But we're unusual in that regard, so if I didn't know that I wouldn't want to waste 2 months of potential trying. And since I'm on my 4th pregnancy with no baby yet, I might not wait even for us, since just getting pregnant quickly is no guarantee.

For his party we found some guests were out of town but then some out of town family was actually here and able to make it. I wouldn't avoid TTC in any particular month if I was ready.

I have 2 friends that just had "christmas babies" one delivered on 12/21 and another on 12/24.... the biggest issue they had was the one the delivered on christmas eve said being in the hospital over christmas sucked. She originally had planned a birth center delivery and they moved her to the hospital because they didnt have enough staff to accomodate her. The other woman was home by christmas and they just celebrated quietly.

I'd go for it. My mom always said if she had a baby close toChristmas, she'd celebrate the half birthday in summer so the baby could have Christmas and birthday separate. You could do that!

My LO was born Dec 21st, and I"m a December baby too. I've never found it to be a big deal, and it works well for birthday parties because all the kids are out of school that week.

However, I learned the hard way that having a Christmas baby was a frustrating experience because I failed to set up lactation consultations beforehand - and then everyone is on vacation and not available. Just a heads up!

The first time around we ended up w a late Nov Edd. Ds was born 11/21. Had we not gotten pregnant we probably would've skipped the next cycle. We had only been trying for two or three months at that point and there was a relaxed approach w ttc #1. This time we started ttc at the end of last summer. I got my BFP in Nov, but if we were still actively ttc, I wouldn't have skipped any cycles because you never know what can happen in the ttc journey!
