@misolee: injuring myself is my biggest worry!

@Mrs. D: we do have a friend who lives on the same street, so in a pinch they can help. I just hate relying on someone else who isn't a super close friend

@Oxana: I live in TX. If she misses more than 8 days in a six month period we start to get phone calls from truant officers and can be heavily fined.

Thanks for all the input! I think I'm going to ask my doc on Wednesday if we can try to reschedule for 12/26!

I would definitely book it earlier. Those extra days will help. And if you can find someone to help you at home (even if that means paying) and for transporting to school for even only 1 week then that would be a great idea.

This might seem radical, but could you take your LO out of school for a week or two? I know in my state, Kindgergarten isn't even mandatory--they aren't required to go to school until 7. I'm not sure what the rules are in your state, but it might be worth looking into. A week or two off won't hurt her. Of course, if you think keeping her home would make things harder for you, that isn't the way to go!

Sucky situation but I'd also do earlier. I feel like every day is a real improvement in abilities and 10 v 8 days is significant.

I'd book earlier. I feel like the first couple of days post-surgery are always the hardest. I had a c section and gall bladder removed and both were easy recoveries but the first 2 days are hardest. Especially if you don't mind a Xmas bday. That might influence my decision.

What about gettng to know one of the moms in her class NOW, and asking if she could pick her up the first week or so in January? You could start aternating duties now, so you can help her out too.

Could a friend pick up your kindergartener on their way to school? I would have some sort of backup alternate in place. I know it's your 4th and you've had faster recoveries but you really never know what can happen.
I had a csec and a quick recovery too but on the other hand My friend's csec scar opened up 10 days post operation bc she was doing too much and not following doctors orders.

Can your toddler sleep on a floor bed or get a toddler conversion rail on the crib so you don't have to lift them on to the bed? Or maybe bunk with the older kids as an adventure? If you can avoid lifting the toddler for a little bit I think you can do it 8 or 10 days post partum. Just stay on top of your meds. And yes, if you can hire some help for about a week that would be ideal.

@MamaBehr: do you have any neighbors that go to the same school and wouldn't mind taking her with their kids the first few days? Any kind of help will be helpful!

Also, is there anyway DH can take her to school and pick her up? Go in late and make up hours in the evening from home?

So judging by your past recovery, you probably know more than us what you can handle. My first was so much easier than my second. But sounds like you handle recovery well.

@travelgirl1: this is my fourth csection. I know that I could be off pain meds earlier, but I really don't need them by 10 days post op. I also know it's rough getting someone in and out of the crib, but I can do it.

As it is, this kid as a bad bday whether it be the 28 or the 26......

I was out shopping at 4 days post C-section. So I think you would be totally fine to walk back-and-forth to your LO's school at eight days postop. I wouldn't move it.

I agree with others for hiring help if you can. Are there any good post-partum doulas in your area. I had one for my first and it was helpful as we don't have local family.

I've had 2 c-sections and both times, my recovery was pretty easy. The second time was a bit harder though because I had a 20 month old running around. It's hard to say exactly how much two extra days would help. I know I walked a mile to the park after LO2 at 9 days out and it was fine. The next day, I definitely felt it, but it wasn't horrible. Lifting my toddler was the hardest part because I was terrified of messing up my incision (my incision got infected after LO1). I don't think I lifted him until 14 or so days pp.

I did have family around to keep my toddler busy in the early days. If you could hire someone to help out, I think it would make things a lot easier.

I agree with @oliviaoblivia: about hiring help. Even if it was a teenager mothers helper, just someone who could do the lifting for you.

I'd probably go for the 26th as well, but would try not to do Christmas Day.

I'm still crossing my fingers that you go into labor a few days before that on their own and they will do it then anyway. :)

@MamaBehr: have you had a c-a section before? Just wondering, if you did, how you got on with lifting the kids etc then. My first was much, much easier than my second in terms of recovery. I think having a toddler around definitely contributed to that.

I haven't had a c section but would definitely get the earlier date... When leaving the hospital after my vaginal delivery and no tearing, the nurses and doctor stressed that they didn't want me picking up my toddler for at least 10 days due to the recovery happening in my abs/mid section. I would imagine this would be even more important for a c section.

I would book for earlier. Though that Christmas birthday isn't the best. Is there anyway you could hire some help for the first few days on your own?
I've been OK at around five days post c-section, but I had family help around so there wasn't anything too difficult on my plate. With my first I was on my own at six days and was totally fine, but I didn't have three other kids to look after.

Things became much easier at 11 days pp for me this time. Before that I had too much pain to even sleep in bed (I could get in okay but not out). After day 11 things got much better quite quickly. So yes I would rebook for the earlier date.

I'm due with my fourth baby Jan 1. I have a csection scheduled for December 28. Here's the dilemma. My husband has to go back to work by Jan 3, my daughter starts back to kindergarten Jan 5 (I have to walk her to and from school, and she can't walk by herself). If I keep the csection when it is, I'll be 8 days post op before I resume my SAHM duties with no help (including getting my 23 month old in and out of a crib). But, my OBGYN was willing to see if they could move my csection to the 25 or 26 (but not a hair earlier, I begged)

So my question, do you think it's worth the two extra days of recovery to move the csection? It means I'll be 10 days post op when I'm on my own and have to walk DD to school and get DS#2 out of the crib. WWYD?
