@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We did get the hotel crib (it was an actual crib, not a pack and play, although a crib that looked like it was used as a prop about an orphanage in the 1930s) but I'm pretty sure it was wrapped in an adult bed sheet. I wouldn't swear 100%, though.

@erinbaderin: do you typically get the hotel crib? If so, do you recall the kinds of sheets they use on the crib?

I ask because one time (only time) we tried a hotel crib the crib was wrapped in an adult bed sheet. I'm sure that did not effect wether LO wanted to sleep in there or not, but I would rather he sleep on a real crib sheet. Of course that means we would have to buy a set since we use zippered sheets at home and only have one base. We ordered a crib for our room and my dad's.

For a mile, it's probably going to take you longer to drive than it would to walk - traffic on the strip in the evenings is insane.

We always stay at the Cosmo since we've had kids, you can get a suite that has a separate bedroom. If you want to splurge upgrade to the big Suites - something like 1200 square feet, wraparound balcony, two bathrooms, HUGE living space, kitchenette.

Last time we went B was 20 months. We went to the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage and loved it, highly recommend.

We asked my dad and he gets his role, "grand-nanny" and is happy to come!

DH is still figuring out hotel. He really wants the 10 nights of points, but also doesn't want to be late for any wedding activities with a start point at the B&G hotel. Cosmo to MB is a little over a mile and two trams along the way. DH was thinking maybe renting a car just to get around Vegas more easily.

???
LO will be a couple weeks shy of his second birthday. Will we need a stroller?

We will have LO two days and my dad will have him two days. I'm sure our days will include some pool time, but I also found some toddler activities to do. https://www.tripsavvy.com/things-to-do-with-toddlers-1679584 Any from this list or other ones you recommend? Would you take LO yourself? Or have LO go with their grand?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Could you just leave for baby home and ask someone to watch for a long weekend? We tend to do that way more (we've only taken family for babysitting that one time. Every other time we've either just had a family vacay with no help/go to a resort with childcare OR just leave him behind.)

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: i highly suggest checking out The Signature. It's an MGM property adjasent to MGM so it's technically on strip. They have a lot of different options for multiple bedroom suites that are more affordable that suites at a regular hotel (I think they are part time share)

@SweetiePie: I didn't even think about that piece of it when LO's bed time rolls around and he's still in their (hotel) room it's lights out for them too. DH wants to stay at the Cosmopolitan (Vegas).

When I talk to DH and share with him I think we should front more of this trip than originally planned he may adjust his baby-free expectations. LO is welcomed at the wedding, but that means we have to watch him. I could always skip the Bach party- right now B&G are planning all day, same day festivities. We were already going to bring LO to the rehearsal dinner to give the grands a night off. Definitely some wiggle room once we run the numbers.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Yeah we aren't really VRBO people and like to stay at really nice hotels when it's just our nuclear family. But for the cost and the logistics of naps and bedtime, we felt a VRBO was better. Not sure what destination you're going to, but we found an amazing 2 story 3 bed 3 bath with a pool and private beach. For wayyyyyy less than 2-3 hotel rooms (since we often get our son his own room attached to ours). During naps and after bedtime, my parents were still able to sit on the patio and enjoy the surroundings or downstairs and watch TV, instead of in a hotel room in silence.

@Meowkers: I would love to say that we have a grand that could step in for almost an entire week, but we don't. My LO adores my dad, but that would be too much for him (and us). Sadly, LO barely knows the other grands and would really need DH and I to show him they are ok people.

When my mom turned me down she suggested I ask extended family that I met once as a kid to watch him. Um that isn't a viable option. I'm not just going to drop my kid off at a random person's house.

DH is pretty set in stone about where he wants us to stay, but like you all pointed out @gingerbebe: @SweetiePie: VRBO options would probably save us money here.

We did this. Had a wedding in Grand Cayman and wanted to make it into a family vacay but kids weren't invited to the wedding.
My parents both came (my mom for help and my dad just because we wanted my mom to have company and enjoy some time with him - they don't go on vacations on their own). We got an awesome vrbo 3 bed condo.
We paid for their flights, accommodations, and it was around their anniversary so we also sent them out to dinner for one night and made arrangements with the restaurant beforehand to pay the bill, a bottle of wine and special dessert.

They ended up taking us to a nice dinner as a thank you (because while they couldn't/wouldn't have paid flight and accommodations on their own they appreciated greatly that they got a nice free vacation out of it).

I agree with @looch: that you have to pay flight and accommodation as a minimum. Yes it's still a "vacation" for them, but it's still a lot to ask someone to pay (I'm assuming) $500+/- for a flight in order to do so when they didn't have plans to otherwise.
Oh and since we DID pay everything I didn't feel so bad REALLY relying on my mom for help. Normally if we visit or they visit I don't ask for much but on that trip I was like "I want to sleep in tomorrow" done. Haha.

We took my parents to Hawaii a few years ago bc I had to attend my best friends wedding. We paid for pretty much everything. They did some childcare (we got to slip away in the evenings), but mostly they just tagged along to everything with us and were extra sets of hands here and there. My dad did nothing, my mom mostly just cooked and fed DS his meals, and they complained about everything. We paid for everything. It was expensive and not very relaxing and I would never go on vacation with them again.

We also had to go on a conference for DH's work last week and took two friends. They also did similar levels of care for me while DH was at the conference. They drove there so no transport costs. They paid for admission and parking to most of our activities and their own groceries. We paid for most meals out and covered the VRBO which was much larger and more expensive than we would have gotten on our own but we wanted them to be comfortable. That was fun and legit helpful, albeit exhausting.

@MaryM: yes, DH thinks SMIL will do most of the babysitting. The destination was actually where FIL and his sons were supposed to go on a boys trip. @snowjewelz: sole reason. We don't want to leave LO with my dad for 5 days given how old my dad is and how far away we are traveling.
