SIL- she gets the interaction with other kids similar to daycare plus she gets to have all sides of her family as caregivers. Luckily little girl!

@Adira: also I wouldn't really even know what they do with her at my SILs... The only reassurance I have is that my SIL is super picky and protective so whatever care works for her has got to be pretty good haha. With that said this is a brand new nanny too so maybe I need to let them try it out first..

@travelingnanny: nope but they supposedly knew each other and so my parents in law technically found the nanny for my SIL

2. We def will pay extra for those days. Either her or us. We have no prob paying but she is also offering since they came up with this option

3. I doubt it but it's only 2 days a week. My mom or husband can take her out on other days

A few questions:
1. Has the nanny worked with MIL before?
2. Will your SIL pay the nanny extra money for also taking care of your child?
3. Will your MIL and nanny take the kids on outings?

Ideally? If money wasn't an issue? I would do nanny until baby is 12 months. Then, I would do the SIL or daycare. That's just me personally.

It sounds like a great situation at your SIL's house!! I would totally do that, especially since $ is an issue for us. And, my mom nannied for 2 kids without any problem ... I feel like 2 adults could easily care for 3 kids (as long as they were comfortable with it).

We've enjoyed having a nanny for the first year, because our babe didn't get sick, and I felt like we were able to navigate through sleep issues, breastfeeding issues, and everything without much stress on my end. Totally selfish, but I loved her being here.

I would pick family first assuming you see that going well and not straining any relationships. Otherwise, I would pick a nanny until the baby is older, then daycare. If money isn't an issue, I would rather keep a baby in a home environment.

@reyorra: I agree.

I vote for daycare. One of the reasons is that you have control as the parent. You don't really have to worry about hurting anyone's feelings by being firm about what you want because you're paying for it and daycare teachers are used to getting different instructions from parents. I'd hate to have my MIL watch my kids and then end up butting heads with her and dealing with family drama!

@Ree723: we won't have to pay for the nanny haha. My MIL wants this arrangement so she can spend them with DD. Plus my SIL & her DH make a ton so she already told us not to even offer to.

@Cole: That is true. If it's not working out the nanny should still be available, if daycare is not.

@looch: We should pay her another x amount on top for those 2 days. So far no one wants us to pay but you are right the nanny should get paid more if she will end up helping with my kid too.

@reyorra: those would totally be my reasoning too to choose daycare! Esp the consistency part.

I would do 1 for sure. The chance to be with family is great. I grew up spending summers with my cousins at my grandmother's, and we all loved it. That being said, it absolutely shouldn't be free. The nanny needs additional compensation for the extra work.

My second choice would be a nanny, but I'm not personally pro-daycare so I'm never going to lean that way.

My vote is for daycare because it will be the most consistent environment. Our daycare never closes, except for a few holidays during the year - so we know that no matter the weather, we can always take our daughter in. Even though she has been sick her fair share of times, we have always been able to make it work out, whether one of us takes time off work or we use family. So it might be nice to have your SIL's house as your backup for a "sick" day when a quieter environment is what your daughter needs. But the socialization and daily structure, plus the educational options (even at that young of an age, they are learning!) far outweighs the other pros for me.

Absolutely number 1. I'm not sure why two women couldn't handle 3 kids. I handle two on a daily basis and three often (ages two and under) and as long as the women are good with children all should be well with that ratio. There would also be additional kids for your DD to socialize with and best of all they are family.

My second choice would be nanny (but it wouldn't be free and you wouldn't have other kids around for the social aspect) and last daycare.

I would definitely do choice 1 for now! 2 adults can absolutely handle 2 infants and a toddler. And it will be great for MIL to have bonding time with your daughter.

When she's older I would put her in daycare.

I vote for your sil, especially if you have a good relationship with her and your mil. It will be so fun for the cousins to get to hang out regularly, even if that doesn't matter as much when they are teeny tiny, it will zip by! I think a skilled nanny with the help of your mil should be a great team and they should be able to handle the three of them with little problem. Can you do it on a trial basis? If you can say lets do it for three months and see how everyone is doing then I think there are zero cons!

I'd go with your SIL! In any other situation, except the individual nanny, assuming you don't nanny share, there will be a far higher ratio of kids to adults than 2:1. And your LO getting to spend time with her grandma, cousins, and aunt sounds ideal. And the 2 yr old should be of an age where they don't need to be held all the time etc, which means two adults for two babies is more than sufficient. :-)

ETA: just reread your post, it will be a nanny with your MIL, oops. Still doesn't change my view though - I think it would be a great arrangement. Would you contribute to the cost of the nanny?

DD will just be under 3 mos when this happens.

Also this is only for 2 days a week; my mom & husband have her on other days.

And money doesn't matter as much as having the best arrangement for DD!

1. Go to SIL's place 20min away (on DH's way to work). A nanny & my MIL are there along with her 2 kids. One is a 2 yr old and the other is same age as DD.
Pro - free
Con - not sure if 2 ppl can handle 3 kids

2. Hire nanny
Pro - no traveling, convenient for DD to be right where she is, get full attention
Con - need to build trust, need back up options if nanny gets sick, has time off, etc

3. Daycare
Pro - daycare is structured, can help her socialize and learn to adapt to diff people/environment
Con - Germs, gotta pack all her stuff, she doesn't get 100% attention all day long
