@ wonderstruck - I love that list.

I also really liked the advice to focus on some of the fun things that DH will get to do with LO. My DH loves superman, so I would get him and LO matching shirts.

I got my husband a shirt that said "Dad est. 2013". I got my friend an outdoor blanket to use for daddy/LO outings. I included a note saying he should take the baby out and give mom a break.

Well it's supposed to be a gift, so I'd steer towards things to make him excited over things like instructions. Depends on the guy, I'm thinking of what my DH would want/not want. But here's a list I found online that I thought was sooooo cute:

Deodorant - to remind you not to sweat the small stuff
Marbles - when you've lost all yours
A piece of rope - when your at the end of yours
Hershey hugs and kisses - for when mom and baby are having a bad day
Advil - for when all else fails
Sour patch kids - to remind him all babies are different
Chap stick - to remind him everything turns out smoothly
Ear plugs - when you can't hear yourself or sleep
Erasers - to remind him it's ok to make mistakes
Clothes pins - when the smell becomes too much
Instant coffee - when you need a quick pick me up
Disposable camera - to save a moment in time
Book - for daddy baby time (I like Vader and Son/Daughter)
Super hero badge - to remind him he'll always be our hero.

Maybe a cookbook, a guide to house cleaning, a list of how to help with nighttime wakings. These are of course coming from experience of hearing my DH say 'well I dont know how I can help'. DONE!

Maybe a mask of some sort to help keep the stench away from changing poopy diapers? People say breastmilk poopy diapers don't stink, but DS's diapers are lethal to the max on the stench radar. Hubby always laughs and pulls up his shirt to cover his nose when he changes a super stinky diaper.

@looch: Great idea! My husband would've loved this for all of our baby gear (swing, bouncer, toys) that required changing out batteries! He was always complaining about how he couldn't find a screwdriver or batteries!

Obviously you know your DH best, but I think my (super involved, totally awesome) husband would have been slightly irritated by the thought of a daddy survival kit. But he's also the type to get completely irritated when people say things about "daddy's day out" or him "babysitting" when he's out alone with our LO.
For his first fathers day, my SIL got him a superhero tshirt (it just had the superman S on it) and she wrote him a note about how he would also be a hero to our daughter. It was such a touching note...omg I still get teary thinking about it.

@MrsH: do you know what you're having? My husband got one of these when I had my shower. :)

He got:
Pink duct tape (we have a girl)
Dad's Root Beer
Hello Kitty bandages
A travel pack of wipes and a small pack of diapers
Little clips/bows for a girl's hair

If it was a boy, I would put in there some boy-themed bandages and little boy socks. Maybe a couple of little outfits so he always has something to dress him in, in case you're not there. :)
