It is pricey, but super nice and sturdy. We got it at nine months and it is still in daily use at 20 months. He loves it! I think it is one of our best purchases, based on how much use it still gets. I also think a nice set of wood blocks would be good starting around that age. Musical instruments are also good. We have a remo gathering drum that gets daily use and has since we got it at a year. Hohner makes a good xylophone. We also get a lot of use out of our pottery barn chair (our LO loves to sit on things though.
