You've already gotten a lot of great advice. The only thing I would add is to go into the interview feeling confident about yourself and your ability to do the job. This will help set the tone for the interview. Sometimes if I'm nervous, it helps to mentally pump myself up before the interview by telling myself how awesome I am and how great I would be at this job.

Do your research! Get to know the company as well as you can. And also do some industry research too. I always ask candidates to tell me something about our company and most of the time, they say they don't know anything! At least find out some basic info on their website if they have one. And also come prepared with questions. I hate it when candidates come in with no questions for me. Feels like they're not interested in the position.

1. body language ( all the PPs have given great examples!)

2. Know the company well and the culture

3. Try and relax and be yourself! Don't be intimidated, rather come to learn about the job [ definitely be observant and ask questions] and share about yourself :) Like others say they most likely want to see if your a "fit" !

Show up 10-15 minutes early, obviously dress accordingly, bring a resume/recommendation letter if they already don't have one. Smile, be yourself, make sure you research the company. AFTER the interview make sure you send a follow up thank you. Very important.

I can't narrow it down to just one, but:

1. Be enthusiastic about the opportunity and talk about why you think you'd be a good fit for that specific job with that specific company.
2. Ask "What does it take to be a star/high performer here?"
3. Send a thank-you email or note the day of the interview that references something you discussed.

Take notice to things in the interviewers office. Some of the easiest interviews I've had is when I've noticed or shown an interest in my interviewer. It's the best when they spend a lot of the interview answering questions you have. If they are bringing you in, you usually have the credentials to do the job and most of the times they are seeing if you would fit in the atmosphere/group.

Eye-contact! If you don't practice good, consistent eye-contact it often communicates to the interviewer that you aren't confident and/or that you aren't being truthful (learned this in a course surrounding interviewing skills),

#1 - Be aware of your body language. I usually cross my legs and lean towards them, nod my head and make good eye contact (but not in a heeby jeeby way). Try to come off as inviting, warm, and engaged as possible. Most interviewers know within the first 5 minutes whether or not they like you - they already know your qualifications based on your resume and if you didn't meet them you wouldn't have been called into an interview in the first place. The interview is really for them to get a sense of who you are and what you offer. Exude confidence and know what you're talking about (study the position and study the company before you walk through that door!).

Connecting with the interviewer is key!

Research the company you are interviewing with ahead of time so you can show you have done your homework, and prepare some questions to ask, there is nothing worse than being asked in an interview if you have any questions and saying no!

After all - all hellobee'rs are loved ones right!?

I have an interview with the county I live in. I am super nervous because the last time I Interviewed for a position was when I was 18 years old! This was also for a county job but only as a student worker while in college. That was 9 years ago! My current job didn't give much of an interview - they basically just asked me if I would be comfortable around sex crime type cases and then asked me if I wanted a tour of the office!

So I am freaking out.
What would your #1 tip for an interview be for a loved one if it was their first time interviewing for an adult job?
