Just had my Day 14 ultrasound for my first IUI cycle and the doc told me I have 2 (maybe 3) mature follicles!! She told me there's a 20% chance I'll have twins with this IUI cycle if we are successful. </p> <p>When I first found out, I was excited. I always thought of how cool it would be to have twins. If we had fraternal twins with a boy and a girl, this would probably be my only pregnancy. Which is nice considering I had no idea I would still be TTC 9 months after trying. I thought I would have at least 1 child by now.<br /> Twins also seem more convienent, if we had a girl and a boy. (Yeah, I'm crazy.) Twins would be able to grow up together. Be best friends. Be in the same growing phase. If this was our one and only pregnancy, I wouldn't have to deal with buying everything all over again. If I wanted a third child (because I'm insane- lol), I could really consider adoption. Since having two biological children and one adoptee(?) would be a perfect family.</p> <p>Now, in reality, I know it would be tough emotionally and physically. Money would be tight. Thinking of school expenses times 2, then college tuition times 2 and everything else times 2 is scary.</p> <p>As for triplets, I would be absolutely shocked and very scared. That's a lot of babies to handle all at once. </p> <p>Like I said on other threads, after waiting 8 months with no BFP, I'm just looking forward to seeing that BFP. Before I got pregnant with DS DH really hoped we'd have twins.</p> <p>If they were my second pregnancy I have no idea what I'd do beyond freaking out, especially since we're like 95% sure we only want one baby, and twins would then give us three. I'd worry about getting through the newborn stage, but it would make me so happy to have our family complete with one pregnancy. I'm going through fertility treatments right now and it is so stressful and grueling. I also think it would be great for them to have a constant playmate and hopefully a lifelong close relationship. The finances for daycare would be a stretch, but if we stay in our current house not unreasonable. And if they're identical, does it getting any cuter than identical little girls or boys? </p> <p>If it was higher order multiples I'd be really worried about complications and having not all of them make it. I was in complete shock for the rest of the day. Luckily we found out pretty early (6 weeks ish) so we had time to process it. We have zero history of twins in our family, but I may or may not have researched what makes some people (naturally) conceive twins more than others. Annnd African-American woman (check) have a higher chance of consuming twins, diets rich in yams, folic acid, and dairy, and the older you are increases your odds.
