@hilsy,-The only yogurts I've known to have that much yogurt are the super flavored ones for adults. YoBaby has 12 grams, including what's in the milk, so it's not 12 added grams. The ones with fruit on the bottom usually have a lot more sugar. It's like pie filling in yogurt. And delicious

Even Dr. Sears recommends the Stonyfield yogurt because of its live cultures.

also sharing: http://www.raisehealthyeaters.com/2010/08/8-of-the-best-yogurts-for-kids/

Just in case anyone else is interested!

I say all this while eating some key lime oikos greek yogurt that i stuck in the freezer earlier

He won't touch plain Greek yogurt heck I can't eat that stuff myself. He'll only eat yogurt of it comes out of a tube. So far I've tried the chobani yogurt tubes and he likes those.

@Adira: we did coconut yogurt due to LO's cows milk sensitivity. Yes it doesn't have that much protein but we tried to make it up in other ways.

Now we use Trader Joes full fat yogurts.

We used to feed her YoBaby and then the Trader Joe's whole milk yogurts in the 4oz cups bc they had the most fat and calories, and she needed to gain weight. Now she will only eat Chobani (the 0% one).

@mrsjyw: I appreciated your earlier comments. Lately I've been avoiding the feeding posts because some of the posts can come across quite judgmental.

@locavore_mama: I've heard (and haven't actually done a lot of research on this myself) that soy isn't all that great for you (lots of people suggested we stay away from soy milk for Xander and do almond, coconut, hemp, etc as alternatives). Is the same true for soy yogurts?? It seems like soy yogurts have the most protein (as far as I can tell) over almond or coconut yogurts. What do you think?

@luckypenny: I've tried to get DS on those pouches but he wasn't a fan. I should try again!

I usually get the Stonyfield whole milk yogurt since I found the YoBaby/YoToddler to be too expensive. But I also found other whole milk yogurts and greek yogurts at our grocery store (Mariano's, it's a Chicago chain) and at TJ's. I usually mix half of the container with a fruit puree pouch and then fill up reusable pouches. DS gets one for breakfast every morning.

We only do plain greek yogurt; I didn't like how much sugar was in the flavored yobaby ones (I think some had like 23-30 grams, which seemed crazy to me). Mainly, though, the thicker consistency of greek yogurt makes it way easier to feed him, and WAY easier for him to try to self feed (although it's still messy)

Ifyou don't like it plain, you can try mixing in applesauce or other pureed fruit! And after 1, they can use honey--LO always has a few bites of mine, which has honey in it.

@locavore_mama: I wasn't offended, and I feed LO baby yogurt. :)

I've tried plain yogurt on its own and mixed with fruit puree, and she won't have it. We only have two options for higher-fat (more than 3%) yogurt at our grocery store, and I've chosen the one with the least amount of sugar. Some days, yogurt is all she wants — and she's a tiny thing (3rd percentile) — so I have to give her something. It's really the only sugar she gets, so I've made my peace with it!

ETA: we used to be able to get a 9% plain greek yogurt and she ate that at the beginning, but started refusing it. I secretly loved when she refused it, because it meant I could eat her leftovers. Sooooo yummy. I haven't seen it on the shelves in a while.

@Smurfette: We buy her the regular Chobani at Publix. If you look closely at the flavors, some flavors are 0% and some are 2%. We try to buy the 2% for her. She likes the fruit in them and we don't have time to mix it ourselves.

I would read the labels carefully though on the baby/toddler yogurt (and adult yogurts). Some do have really high levels of sugar in them in comparison to the protein levels. I think some are almost the sugar levels of a frozen yogurt dessert treat.

This is a 0% Chobani but the sugar/protein is similar to the 2% ones.

@fancyfunction: I didn't know there was full fat greek yogurt! We were doing greek yogurt, but then I realized he might need more fat.

We just get a big tub of vanilla and scoop it into a bowl and let him go crazy town on it. Mix in fruit if desired. I 'll microwave some frozen stuff and it turns into a nice addition.
