That does sound a bit easier to follow since there are humans in it! haha The Algebraist was about alien life and you had to get really creative with their appearance! They also lived on Jupiter, which is a gaseous planet, and so trying to envision their living environment was difficult for me at times. It is a tome though, I'm already more than 600 pages into it and am just coming out of the Reconstruction era! He's also written the same type of story for several other cities/regions of the world - London, Paris, Sarum (modern day Salisbury, England), and a few others I can't recall off the top of my head. Highly recommend!
