I should add he is 19m! And to me it's beneficial for both of is. We are busy and he needs time to reset and relax too.

I leave my son for 1.5 hours before I get him unless he's hysterical. I tell him he can play with his stuffies and he brings a toy to crib and he can choose to sleep or just rest. He really does need a 1.5 hour nap because he only sleeps 10-10.5 hours at night. If he slept in and went to bed early and was happy all day I would leave him for an hour. He's 26m.

@Weagle: when she did nap it was 2-3 hours, but there's no way I could leave her up there that long! Haha she would get bored ;) I think maybe an hour would work well and if she does ever end up falling asleep, bonus!

@Bao: I understand the need. I was just saying I would judge based on what a minimally acceptable nap duration would be. For us, and hour is a short nap, but it's fine. So I would have rest time be an hour. I have a friend that does a 2 hour rest time every day for her kids because that's the minimum they would need to recharge if they were to take a nap.

When my LO sleeps in and doesn't act tired, he is in his crib reading for an hour. He is happy and I am happy!

Well she sleeps in and goes to bed between 7-7:30 if she doesn't nap so I put her to rest knowing she's not going to fall asleep. She does well if I give her books and she will just hang out and look at them. I could just keep her up altogether but I need a few minutes to switch laundry, do a few dishes etc. to keep my sanity ;)

@mrbee: @autumnlove: oh ok! I was thinking 30 minutes was "mean" haha ;) but I guess, really, she's not even two so a good rest time is nice for both of us!

LO doesn't really nap anymore (ugh), but I will occasionally put her in her bed for quiet/rest time with some books. I feel guilty doing this sometimes because I know she's not that tired, but I need just a little bit of time for myself. What would you say is a fair about of rest time?
