We mostly just liked camping and fishing in the catskills or the jim thorpe, pa area. This was all prekids though. There's a place my husband's brother's families really like in the poconos. It's an inexpensive lodge with some nice outdoor activities. I'll echo Poconos and North Fork. The wineries in North Fork are fun and some seemed kid-friendly (kontokoska in particular). It was a lot of fun, which was a surprise - we're used to using our vacation time to visit family, which isn't always relaxing.</p> <p>Any ideas on other places we could stay, within 2-3 hours of car from NYC? I was thinking, maybe North Fork (wine country in Long Island)... although there's not too much nature around there, I think? Not sure. </p>
