I wouldn't describe them at all as being like an apple (that would be more like an Asian pear)...I'd describe them as more like a raw potato. The pointy ones are juicier and I have less experience with them...but they're both ripe, just different textures! They'll be really soft and mushy and smell sweet.</p> <p>When they're not ripe they leave this awful film all over your tongue and mouth.
