When it seemed like be really wanted to move around/roll but he couldn't in the Merlin, that's when I tried to get rid of it. I started just with naps and when I realized he slept the same, maybe better, I put him in a sleep sack at night. We didn't skip a beat, it was a very easy transition.

I stopped swaddling around 5 weeks (he hated it), tried the magic sleep suit for a few weeks (it helped but not a whole lot, he has MSPI/reflux so nothing was very helpful), and finally now that he's rolling (12 weeks tomorrow) he's in a sleep sack and I'm letting him sleep on his tummy. I know that's not recommended, but he has good head control, does mini push-ups, and is a million times more comfortable/better sleeping that way. I swaddle weaned both LO1 and 2 cold turkey, but neither of them loved it and it was pretty painless. Good luck!

When she started rolling back to tummy I went ahead and switched her to a sleep sack, cold turkey. We didn't have any issues (I mean, she's a horrible sleeper but the switch didn't make it any worse!)

We transitioned straight to a sleep sack once he could roll from back to front. That entire span of time is a haze due to lack of sleep but I don't recall it being too torturous of a transition.

I switched to the zipadee when I could tell she was trying to roll. If your lo is not sleeping well in the Merlin it may be because they want more freedom.

Zipadee worked well for about 4 weeks and we've actually just gone to a sleep sack (A&A brand) and she's sleeping better than she ever has.

She's now a tummy sleeper who likes to stretch and move around lots. Which is why swaddling, the Merlin, and the zipadee all stopped helping her sleep.

When she rolled over in it at 6 months, it went bye bye. We moved to a plain sleep sack and sleep trained

My son is six months old, rolls over like crazy and is still in the merlin's magic sleepsuit. It works well for us! I don't think you have to transition to a sack at a certain point - it's just a matter of you and your baby's preference!

The zippidee works great for us, we skipped the merlin because she was rolling.

Don't know how helpful this is because my son HATED being swaddled and we basically did it out of force for a few weeks. We went from a brief stint in SwaddleMes to the Halo swaddle sack at 2 months (where we basically started with 1 arm out swaddling), and then used it in the arms out configuration until 4 months when we switched to the regular Halo sacks. But DS is really long so you may end up being able to use the swaddle sack for a lot longer than we did. We like it because he can freely roll over back and forth and thrash around (he's active).

LO has been in the Merlin suit (previously swaddled) for about 6 - 7 weeks. He doesn't know how to roll from front to back, so that's not an issue yet. Just wondering how to tell when it's time to transition him to a sleep sack, and what kind of sack?
