@blackbird: I love avocados!

@LulaBee: haha me too! It doesn't helps that I'm a ridiculously picky eater. I often eat different things than the rest of my family.

Flaming hot Cheetos and bagels... :silly:

In all seriousness, I really need to be better about eating healthy. I do have a smoothie with kale and carrot and fruit every morning, so that's something. I just hate to cook/prep food, so I always take the easy way out. Lots of good ideas on here!

@sarac: yes! I got really really into Paleo & nutrition for a while & it totally changed the way I look at good & the affect that it can have on each individual person.

@Mrs. Sunshine: Awesome. Dieting and breastfeeding made me super aware of the amount of fat I need in my diet. Too much dairy fat makes my stomach hurt, so I try to stick mostly to plant based fats - but whatever, so long as I get it in.

I love to take the cream out of a can of coconut milk and whip it up with a little sugar and vanilla, and then eat that with strawberries. Or just straight out of the bowl. Yummmmmm. Dieting got much easier for me when I stopped trying to reduce my fat content - and my body was much happier. I really wish I'd known that while pregnant.

What I WISH I'd eaten while pregnant:

a TON of healthy fats. Coconut oil, coconut cream, olive oil, peanut butter, etc. Then just more butter, meats, etc. I craved fat but didn't really know what I was craving - adding those things into my life now has drastically improved my skin, hair, energy, ability to diet, etc.

Loved me some egg sandwiches and breakfast burritos! Also its pretty easy to whip up some whole grain muffins for snacks, and freeze a bunch of them. Enjoyed lots of green smoothies too.

I also forced myself to eat salmon once per week because I read its good for baby's developing brain.

I'm eating porridge, toast with vegemite, cheese slices, yoghurts, apples and bananas, sandwiches with egg, ham and tomatoes, omelettes, pasta with tomato sauce and bacon. I won't tell you all the bad stuff I'm eating ;-)

When I was pregnant, I committed to eating whole foods. Once out of the first trimester (because all I wanted was bread and bread), I really focused on non-packaged goods. All whole foods. If I couldn't make it, I didn't eat it. Oh, the night I went into labor, I decided to eat eggplant parmesan ... big mistake! ;)

Salad. Cold food goes down a lot better than hot food. When I don't eat healthy, I just make sure not to overeat-which makes me feel miserable!

Breakfast is usually a whole wheat bagel with grass fed butter & sometimes pumpkin butter. Sometimes a banana goes with that but sometimes they make me sick. Oj & my one cup of coffee.

Lunch: whole wheat turkey sandwiches, frozen Tyson chicken breast with salsa & veggies/salad, while wheat pasta with squash & chicken. Any kind of soup.

Dinner: usually chicken & veggies. Brown rice is a usual add on or cold buttered whole what bread. I get tired of chicken though so we do lots of super lean beef too.

Snacks: fruit (especially grapefruit!) Nuts, oatmeal, baby carrots, cheese, veggie straws (ehh, they're at least better than potato chips right? lol) cherry tomatoes & cottage cheese....

umm does heating up pizza count? cuz that's what i've been doing recently ;)

But when I am healthy:

Breakfast: smoothies with fruit/kale, hardboiled eggs, laughing cow cheese, oatmeal bars

lunch: salad at the work cafeteria pretty much every day

dinner: avocado on a tostada shell with cheese and tomato, quinoa and mushrooms, caprese salad (just cut up tomatoes with motz cheese and balsamic), just adding broccoli to the side of anything else i'm eating

breakfast: I've been making whole wheat egg sandwiches on Sunday and eating them all week (freezer) I just make eggs in muffin tin, and then add turkey/ham, 1/2 a slice of cheese, and the enlish muffin. freeze and then pop it in microwave wrapped in paper towel for 1-2 minutes.

lunch: chicken noodle, tomato, chili, vegetable, ect. soup, egg salad, turkey, PBJ, BLT sandwich/wrap, salad, chicken or tuna salad. Always with fruit, veggie, or yogurt side.

Dinner: I have to eat carbs to stay full through the night with some protein and a veggie.

Snacks: yogurt, string cheese, nuts, oatmeal, fruit, veggie sticks with hummus/dip, crackers with hummus/laughing cow cheese, granola bar, pretzel thins, guacamole/salsa and chips, or crackers of some sort.

I need ideas. I am getting bored of eating the same things or making bad choices. Preferably it's easy to whip up or grab and affordable. Mine have been:

Snack: carrot sticks, v8 juice, hummus with pita or pretzels, raisins , apples, applesauce, clementines, trail mix and other nuts

Meals: scrambled eggs with whole grain toast and avocado, yogurt with granola, Special K cereal with milk, lentil soup, spinach ravioli with tomato sauce, bean burritos on whole wheat tortilla, turkey chili, egg salad sandwiches and rice and beans.
