The shelf in DD's room is low to the ground (so she can eventually access it herself). It's an IKEA Kallax shelf and It has a single toy in each "cubby". On top of the shelf I have 2 stuffed toys which were gifts.

We have two leaning bookshelves. mostly books, but also stuffed animals, pictures, a print with her birth info that we got as a gift, a sound dock and ipod, bins with toys and then a few personalized gifts we received after she was born. The bookshelves are actually my favorite part of her room!

Our kids rooms are for sleeping only, but we have billy bookshelves in each kid's room (the 4 level size). They both store bedtime books, some stuffed animals (mostly OUR stuffed animals and dolls from when we were little, especially my American Girl Samantha doll!), piggy bank, keepsake items like their Korean shoes from their first birthday outfits, keepsake bibles, etc. I also have a "My first year" frame for each kid that sits on top.

We have an IKEA Expedit (2 rows) laying long ways horizontally. Bottom shelves hold wicker storage bins (also IKEA) with overflow books, blankets, and toys. Top row holds books, random stuffed animals, sound machine. On top we have a few picture frames, piggy bank, and humidifier. I feel like we don't have enough storage still.

- Books
- Some stuffed animals
- wicker boxes containing toys
- A CD player / radio (up high, out of DD's reach)
- An alphabet puzzle -- this one gets a ton of use these days. DD is really interested in working on the puzzle and on naming the letters.

Just a couple of stuffed animals. I think when we use the nursery more I'll find more stuff I want to store there.

On the bottom shelf I have a basket of toys and then a few laid out decoratively. I also have a pretty box for keepsakes, a few frames, parenting books and a pretty container for more practical things that I don't want visible. If I had more room I would add more frames, books facing out and display a few more pretty toys and stuffed animals.

It's great you have so much storage space! I could happily triple our shelf space!

I like to plan rooms for kids so that they are very child friendly, so probably wouldnt use a shelf that big in a kids room...they will only be able to access the bottom two shelves, and they are just asking to be filled with knick knacks (which i personally avoid like the plague!) If i did have to have a shelf that tall i would fill the top shelves with picture books standing up woth the covers exposed, maybe 2-3 per shelf. Book covers are usually attractive, but are also practical! :)

What do you put on the shelves in your kiddo's room? Here is our current set up, a Billy bookcase and 2 floating shelves (ignore all the random stuff on them, they'll mostly be removed). I'm sure I won't get enough books to fill up the Billy book case yet, and I don't want to buy a bunch of knick-knacks for the purpose of filling all the shelf space.

Anyone wanna share photos of your shelves?! I've been scouring Pinterest, but would love to see some more inspiration!
