Turkey roll
Collard Greens
Roasted Broccoli
Sweet Potato Casserole
Mashed Potato
Stuffing
Mushroom Gravy
Cranberry Sauce

Unfortunately, my in-laws won't let me cook since I have a very high risk pergnancy, and they can't cook. SO I am ordering all of this through an artisinal store in Brooklyn. Very lame.

We are hosting this year as well. I tend to do a pretty traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Crackers/cheese

Turkey
stuffing (not stuffed in the turkey)
cranberry sauce (real and jelly)
mashed potatoes
green salad
homemade rolls
squash
roasted veggies

pumpkin pie
apple pie
brownies

wine, beer, apple cider, milk (for the kiddos) :)

@mrs. wagon: excellent, that looks yummy! I really like the fig jam from Trader Joes, so I will probably use that!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Thanks for this! I want to do something when guests arrive, so this would be really special, I think.

@looch: last year I made a punch that I adapted from a Martha Stewart holiday recipe

Ginger Beer
Cranberry Juice
Orange Juice
Champagne (I used an el cheapo carbonated kind)
Sugared orange slices (froze them to act like ice cubes)

The drink was hit, but this year I am going to add pomegranate syrup and use pomegranate seeds as garnish. Perhaps freeze them in champagne ice cubes.

@looch: I cannot remember where I saw the recipe but this is very similar, but uses cream cheese:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Fig-and-Olive-Tapenade/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Thumb&e11=goat%20cheese%20fig%20tapenade%20log&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page

Basically it's making fig/olive tapenade then coating a log of goat cheese. I made the tapenade the night before and refrigerated it, which made it super quick to serve!

@mrs. wagon: Do it! I ordered it online from cajungrocer and it came last week. It's the first time we are trying it, I figure it can't be worse than plain turkey!

What do you do for the fig and goat cheese log...I might add that!

@looch: ohhh pre-dinner grazing!! good point! I made a goat cheese and fig log and served with crackers a few years ago and I think I will do that again.

TURDUCKEN... Should I give it a shot?!??!
Brussel Sprouts...!!! Oh man, maybe I need to rethink my "basic" menu.

Oh girl, you read my mind:
Pre dinner grazing: crawfish pies

Turducken, with cornbread stuffing
cranberry sauce
mashed sweet potatoes
green salad
Ina Garten's Sagoponac Corn Pudding
roasted brussels sprouts with bacon
mac and cheese (in reality, this is Alpermagronen, Swiss style mac and cheese)
Apple crumble, pumpkin pie

What I am really struggling with is beverages...I feel like I need something "special" to drink with dinner, and not wine.

Just found out my parents are leaving early Thanksgiving Day, which means they'll arrive after lunch. Maybe even right before dinner if they stop for lunch and shopping like they usually do. That's totally fine with me (I love preparing holiday meals!! as long as someone is entertaining the kids) but now I've got to plan the menu. Usually my mom has input since she's a great cook, and my dad will take care of the turkey no matter where he is... but since they'll be driving... it's all up to me!

I'm thinking just the basics, mostly to keep it kid-friendly:
Turkey with stuffing
Separate stuffing (maybe in muffin tins to make multiple crispy servings)
Mashed potatoes (I am thinking sour cream and chive)
Green Bean casserole
Sweet Potato casserole
Cornbread
Cranberry sauce (I like the canned, jellied kind... no whole berries!)
Creamed corn (I have an amaaaazing recipe somewhere at home I will link to in the future!)
Pumpkin and apple pie (the night before!)

I've done things like sauteed green beans with almonds and baked acorn squash before, but for some reason I want to keep things super simple and basic this year. Maybe I'll do a mac and cheese since that will go over super well with the kids.
