@autumnlove: I am also not looking forward to this! G will be 2 in 2 weeks and A will be 1 in 3 1/2 months...I think this will be hard!

I think the hardest thing, for me, with 2 under 2(mine are 15 months apart) is that the older one wasn't able to communicate very well in the beginning and still required a lot of attention from us.

Yeah I guess it’s because the older child is very much still a dependent baby in some ways too. It probably isn't potty trained, it can only feed itself to a certain extent, it isn't completely verbal yet, it might even not be a good walker yet. All these things are way better when the older child is half a year to a year older.
All that said: I am so crazy to wanting my LO 2 yrs. apart!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: True but I keep thinking that potty training with a newborn would be the most difficult arrangement especially if the dad has to go right back to work. Not sure yet, we haven't hit potty training!

Probably just a fun thing to say but arbitrary. :) My younger LO is turning 1 soon and I think two young toddlers (1 and 2) will be harder than the newborn stage.

+1 for what Mr. Bee said. Under two has a tougher time communicating in general so you deal with the toddler tantrums + a new born. I give props to those parents out there that do it, my 18 month old keeps me busy, throwing a newborn in the mix would frighten me!

Haha, I think it's half an arbitrary thing to say, half real? 2 under 2 years 7 months doesn't have the same ring ;)
But 2 year olds aren't very self-reliant yet, and that's when tantrums can get really bad (all guessing on my part - I do not have a 2 year old yet!).

I think it's because around that age, the older child is often getting those tough toddler tantrums... so then you have both a tantruming toddler and a newborn on your hands!

Everyone always talks about how hard it is to have "2 under 2." I definitely can see how it would be difficult. But is it really going to be that much easier around the second birthday? Or is "2 under 2" just a fun thing to say but arbitrary?

ETA: I'm not actually considering 2 under 2, as lo1 is already 19 months, so min gap is going to be 28 months, but just curious!
