@Foodnerd81: Thank you, super helpful!!! I will order a few sample cans of the most promising colors and check how they actually look - I'm in the same geographic area as you, and expect there may be similar issues with lots of grey winter light (today is a case in point!) making colors look flatter.

@periwinklebee: this is the color I initially wanted that read as a flat gray in her room (not a lot of natural light, BM Winter Gray. It looked perfect in our condo in a swatch before we moved.

@periwinklebee: I just checked, it’s Behr crocus petal (NOTE: there is also a Benjamin Moore crocus petal purple and it is bright purple!). There was a BM color I also loved but it looked all gray in her room instead of purply gray. I’ll try to remember that name.

Thank you all!!! I love these ideas.

@skinnycow: This is so stunning! @lady baltimore: Sounds awesome - and amazing rug!

@wrkbrk: Our downstairs I think is a somewhat similar color (still trying to figure out from the broker what it is.... ) I go back in forth with just putting that everywhere - and will I think put it in the master - versus being a tad more daring with LO's room.

I love the suggestions on shades that hint color without being too overpowering. @josina: Love the purple; @Foodnerd81: do you by chance remember the soft purple you used?

@LCTBQE: Going to grab a sample of Farrow & Ball Calamine, looks gorgeous. A light mint also seems worth looking into. We discovered quarter-sawn oak flooring under the carpet and have a walnut crib and dresser - in our family room a light greenish-slate color in the area rug worked super well for tying the same oak floors into a walnut coffee table, so I'm thinking it could be a good bridge if we get the right shade. Before being torn up the room had qua green walls, which was a bit much, but may have also been a combination with the old teal carpeting, which is getting tossed.

A la @PurplePumps: 's suggestion, I've thought about an accent wall as a sort of compromise. The room is a bit weird, in that there's an old sealed off fireplace on one wall, which would be the logical accent. The fireplace itself is gorgeous but at some point they plopped a radiator right in front of it, which is a bit unsightly and I think given the positioning easy for it to inadvertently become an ugly focal point. The cost to move it to a different wall was insane, so we're living with it...

Thank you all again - so many beautiful options!

I went with a medium grey for LO's nursery (I think it is Valspar's Cathedral Grey), for all of the reasons you mentioned: I wanted something neutral that I could easily change the accessories around without having to repaint.

The original plan was chartreuse-orange-cerulean with a grey background. At 3, LO's dresser is a muted turquoise with dark chartreuse pulls, walls are grey, curtains are a multicolored chevron fabric that I fell in love with late in my pregnancy, which plays crazy well with this rug that I picked up off of FB Marketplace: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/halved-rug-flatwoven-handmade-multicolor-20328228/

I like bright colors, not pastels, and wanted something gender neutral that would grow with LO. I am super happy with that plan so far, and already have ideas for a stenciled accent wall to work with the nursery curtains if we move them to her big girl room when the time comes.

For our first nursery we were renting and couldn’t paint, so it was ugly yellow with gray and white accents. So when we bought our house, I painted the baby’s room a soft, grayish purple, and it is still by far my favorite room. It’s not smack you in the face purple, but soft enough that I think it will grow with her for a while (she is almost 4 now, and my 6 year old is jealous that her room isn’t this color). If you consider purple I can look up the color.

We left our girls’ rooms the same color as the rest of our house (SW Agreeable Gray) and did an accent wall with peel and stick wallpaper. I like it because we can remove it if we want in the future!

This is DD2’s room - you can see the paint color too.

We did grey with a colored accent wall, that way if we get some color, but itd be way easier to just paint one wall if I wanted to change it.

@periwinklebee: So this is ours. Same color for our whole house including DS’s room - We have been in for over two years and still love it. I wouldn’t change a thing. It looks nice in every light. Ranges from a grey to a taupe cream.

We moved in to our house last summer and the entire interior is painted the same color. I thought I would hate it and planned on painting DD's room as well as the master - but I actually love it! It's a very basic go with everything beige neutral. I don't know the exact color and if I had picked I would have gone with something with a touch more gray in it. But overall it's easy - everything matches, touch ups are simple because we only have to store one color.

Originally DD's things were all shades of pinks and grays. But she has added lots of random pops of colors over the past year.

DS's room is a really pale blue-grey, and it has worked for him and DD since they share a room -
She's getting her own room soon and I plan to paint it a light purple-grey, similar to this... She requested purple, but I want to keep it light so its fairly neutral.
My step-daughter is moving rooms and her walls are a really light grey.

I don't know if pink is not progressive, but I just went for it, LL's room is Farrow & Ball Calamine (two windows, 1 northern and 1 western) and it is gorgeous. For the furniture I did light wood and white. I like purple but it felt like more of a commitment and statement than pink to me. This lady did a mint color and it's also really great and not smack-you-in-the-face girly.

I let DD pick the color when we moved to our new house. One room is very very light purple because purple is her favorite color, and what was younger DD’s bedroom (they share now) is a very soothing pink with some floral decor accents. The beds, crib, curtains, and rocker are white. If we have a boy this time we will likely go with a grey, keeping the mostly white furniture.

We just painted our own bedroom in Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and I LOVE it and wish our nursery was painted that color. It's kind of a grey, blue, green. I think it would go well with a variety of other colors (pinks, navy, gold, etc).

Gray. My whole house is gray (except basement which is a very light yellow to brighten up a dark basement).

I have a very light gray in main living areas/bathrooms, and an ever slightly darker gray in the bedrooms. For the girls they've always had white furniture and then just accents (mostly removable) to dress it up. This way, we don't really need to do anything as we're having a boy and they can all interchange rooms in the future.

I'm due with a :girl: next month - we've been doing renovations so I'm a bit behind on her room, but finally getting around to planning it. The plan is to keep her in the room as she grows older.

The biggest thing that I need to figure out now is paint color. I find this the most challenging b/c I only want to paint once, whereas I can always return things like crib sheets if they don't work.... I feel like design websites are nearly useless, as colors render so inaccurately in pictures. And I know...what actually looks good will depend on the direction of light (west), the amount of vegetation outside the windows, the season, etc, etc....But that aside, I'm looking for color palettes that people have used IRL and loved. And particularly interested in paint colors (wall, ceiling, or both) that read as neutral and are easy to redecorate around, without being too clinical or sterile.

Thank you!
