Mine was fast (4.5 hours from "I wonder if this might be real" to her arrival), but I was never scared (other than worrying I was going to have her on the side of the road, which really would have been bad since she was a preemie, albeit a huge, healthy one). I don't know if I believe it or not, but the girl claimed she had no idea she was pregnant. She and her mom just thought she had gained some weight. One day, she felt sick to her stomach and stayed home from school. Apparently at some point, it got really bad so she called her boyfriend and asked him to come over when he finished school. She ended up having her baby in her bed with only her boyfriend to help. By the time my mom's friend got home from work, her grandchild had already been born. My dad didn't believe my mom that she was in labor. They had to drive 45 min to the hospital and she was laboring the whole time. They got to the hospital about ten minutes before I was born and ran into an empty room. The nurse yelled at them to get out but then she realized what was going on. My dad delivered me! He is a doctor, but not an OB. They pull into emergency, and she needs to push. Her husband ran inside to grab someone to help, in the mean time she was in the car pushing. He came back out to the car just in time to catch the baby. Their 7 year old daughter was in the back seat, as her mum was meeting them there to collect her. She cheered her mum on instead. </p> <p>Another friend delivered at home not intentionally. Her husband had gone to the footy about an hour away, while he was gone she started getting contractions. She called her SIL and her midwife, and was going to go to the hospital. The SIL came to pick her up, she got to her just as the baby was crowing! I was telling people about that in my Centering Pregnancy group, when everyone was discussing a birth at our hospital that occurred a month before we were all due. The couple was in the skybridge walking from the parking garage into the hospital and gave birth right there. And then gave her baby up for adoption for three days and then got him back! </p> <p>This was almost 30 years ago and everyone swears that she never looked pregnant! No one even suspected it.
