The foreverness of it and the constant-ness of it. Even if I'm not with her, my brain is on her.

Sleep, and as she gets older, lack of quiet down time. I'm an introvert, and having a toddler who wants to interact constantly is hard work for me. Most of the rest of it I find pretty easy.

Lack of sleep. LO is a terrible sleeper. Also lack of freedom. Sometimes I miss just getting up and going.

Seeing them hurt. When someone is mean to DS at preschool or like today, DD was at the ER for an extremely high fever and was blue around the mouth/hands and arms. It was terrifying and my heart breaks for them more than I ever thought it could.

The lack of sleep! I used to be a night owl who would sleep in until at least 10am on weekends but now 7am is a sleep in for me! The adjustment to less sleep was definitely hard - it made my relationship with dh very tense and strained. The other hard part is the paranoia - am I doing everything possible to make my lo grow up loved and happy, how each decision I make affects her etc. It's hard.

The mom guilt. Wanting so badly to do all the "right" things and trying to figure out what the "right things" are. Breast feeding vs formula feeding, WOHM vs SAHM, etc.

@blackbird: Me. :) A blogger I follow uses the term assvice, and I totally borrowed it from her.

The lack of freedom. Even though LO has never slept through the night (not even close, and she's 8.5 months!), the lack of freedom has been truly surprising. It is just so stinkin hard to get things done. Even the little things!

@Running Elley: @hilsy85: @Mrs. Fox: THIS!!! I FREAKED OUT about this while pregnant... It is so overwhelming and completely terrifying!!! That is a HUGE undertaking. I am completely solely responsible for this little person... it's pretty much my fault if he turns out all messed up!

Breastfeeding and then the lack of sleep the first year. Now that I have a toddler (who sleeps) it seems that I don't freak out as much. But to quote my dad when I tell him to stop worrying about me, "I will worry about you until I die!"

I can handle it all as long as I have adequate sleep!!! Going through sleep regressions/wonder weeks/sleep disruption truly affects me! I am exhausted, our house is a wreck, I've got 14 million things to do for our move, and I cant get anything done! Bad sleep destroys everything lol.!! If we can get back to at least 8 hrs a night and a couple of decent naps a day, everything will be okay!!! But who knows how long it WONT be okay!!

Pregnancy was very difficult for me, the sickness was probably the biggest obstacle I've faced in my life. Then as pp have said, the worry. I worry about all kinds of things that might happen to her and hope I don't screw her up in any way.

@Mrs. Fox: @hilsy85: I agree as well. It's completely overwhelming. It will be forever. You will always worry, feel responsible for and love this little one so much that it hurts.

Kind of goes along with it but also the weight of the responsibility. The choices that you make as a parent, even the small things that seemed insignificant before, will shape who this little person becomes and will have an impact on the rest of their lives! This already present pressure along with further pressure placed by society is extremely overwhelming.

For my first- breast feeding the first month, sleep deprivation the first 8 weeks, loss of freedom and just the overall feeling of doubt about my ability as a mom!

For my second- everything is easier but sleep deprivation sucks and I worry about being attentive to both kids.

Over the long term I'd say the constant worry.... Worry about injury (minor & major), how they're developing intellectually, what kind of people they'll be & worrying what part I'll play in screwing that up, worry about them getting their needs met (physical & emotional), & worry that I'll only know what they need if they tell me & will they trust me enough to tell me everything?!...

Yep, that's definitely been the hardest. Lol

Loss of freedom and/or feeding issues. The loss of freedom is an ongoing thing but we're adjusting, feeding issues dominated the first entire year of her life and took an extreme toll on my mental state.

For the first year it was definitely sleep! I was very accustomed to 9-10 hours a night! But I have learned to adjust and now get about 8 and feel OK.

Second would be the loss of "freedom". No spontaneous date nights, quick in/out trips to the store, weekend getaways, easy cheap vacations, doing what we want with money (haha!)... But it's worth it!
