Babies sleep a lot, and a shower doesn't take that long. The problem was more that I was so exhausted that the thought of standing up when I could be plopped on the couch was unbearable...and drying my hair? Forget it. For me it was more likely that I would just be so busy that I would forget more so than that I couldn't have if I wanted to. :)</p> <p>ETA - Also, happy momma is a priority too...so if a shower will make you feel human, 5 minutes away from the little one isn't going to hurt. So if he/she does happen to wake up crying while you are in the shower, honestly, so what. Bring the monitor in the bathroom, and get out asap if you need to. In my defense, I lived in a house with no running water. I used wet wipes to wipe off my face and armpits and things, and I'd change undergarments daily. I'd mosey over to the boarding school where I worked to shower when I could, but it was awkward because it was in the middle of the courtyard with nowhere nearby to change.</p> <p>The longest I went was like 22 or 23 days, during the dry season when water was quite often cut off. It also happened that at that time there was a transit strike, so I couldn't get to the nearby big city that was 2 hours away. As soon as the strike was over, I was on the first bus out of there, a months worth of laundry in my suitcase. She's a super light sleeper and the shower wakes her up..... I could have found the time to shower while she was awake - a few times I put her in the rocker in the bathroom while I showered - but it was very low on my priority list to be honest! I showered before I left for the hospital, but I had an extremely long labor and needed a blood transfusion - and the MWs wouldn't let me shower until my stats had stabilized. Given how sweaty and dirty and *disgusting* I was after labor and delivery, I have never wanted a shower so badly in my life.</p> <p>I showered every single day while I was on mat leave. Some days it was really hard, but a shower and clean yoga pants were a priority for me. My parents would visit during my maternity leave to make sure that I showered and ate. My mom made it clear that I didn't have to entertain them. Now at 18 months, I'm usually too tired to shower some nights after work and time with LO. When DH and I were away for a wedding, my DH made a point of taking a couple of showers because he could. </p> <p>For LO #2, I'll remember the car seat or bouncy seat recommendations. When I went back to work, I would put LO in a bouncy seat or the Bumbo when I put on makeup and got ready for work. I was having DREAMS about showering! DH is at work for 2 days at a time so I couldn't just wait until he got home! (Before he went to work I should've done it but something always came up!). You will feel so much better if you can get one in!! </p>
