DS loves his daycare and if he is outside playing, he used to get so mad when I showed up to pick him up. One day he was outside and after playing with him for a few minutes I picked him up to leave. He started hitting me in the face. I grabbed his hands to stop him and put him on the ground on his butt for a time out. Didn't work and he started hitting and then biting me. This whole time he is screaming and wriggling around like a madman. I give up on the time out thing and just try to get out. He then bites my shoulder hard, just as we are at the car. I set him down for another time out. He kicks me and then grabs handfuls of the gravel on the drive way and throws it at me. Then as I'm trying to get him in his car seat he goes strait as a board and throws himself out of the seat. It was awful. He was about 16 months old and 29 pounds, so by the time he was strapped in, I was exhausted.

Another time we were at the consignment shop getting him a few new things. He was great until it was time to leave. My hands were full and I scooped him up with one arm. He got mad and bit into my neck/shoulder and didn't let go. With my hands full and not wanting to make a scene, I just left, wincing, until I got to my car.

Thankfully his tantrums involve less hitting and biting and more stomping his feet and crying. I was at my wits end with the hitting and biting.

The worst tantrum was (thankfully) at home. He was tired and couldn't tell us what he wanted and had a complete meltdown! He was sitting on the kitchen floor pointing to the fridge screaming and crying. We literally took every single item out of the fridge and asked him "you want THIS?" and he would shake his head every time. Finally, after 20 minutes of screaming ,crying, thrashing, kicking, you name it...he got up and walked over to the fridge and pulled out a yogurt and started eating it quietly on the dining room table. I remember it SO clearly because it was epic I tell ya. EPIC!

One time we were going to the zoo, and Charlie was hungry, tired and upset. He ended up throwing the biggest tantrum of his life, and just completely melted down.

And of course, at that very moment we managed to run into some friends that we hadn't seen in a long time. Time stood still and I truly wished I had one of those potions from Alice in Wonderland where you could shrink down to the size of an ant. After that, I got really serious about learning more about tantrums!
