I was pretty unimpressed with both events.</p> <p>Otherwsie, just some minor earthquakes, floods, and forest fires. I can't remember the names of them but they were all Super Typhoons with winds/gusts up to 175 mph. Crazy, huh?! Thank goodness for concrete homes back home! And no water for like two weeks. We had a whole-house generator and used pool water to flush the toilets, thankfully! It was a bad one. I loved less than a mile from Lambert Airport, which got hammered BAD. I'm luckily on high ground on the UWS so I didn't lose power and there wasn't flooding on my street. All of my friends south of 30th street are without power though and people in the boroughs have a lot of devastation. I was a little far from the epicenter, but Mr. Jacks was basically on the fault line. It was a miracle their house survived (it didn't have a foundation). The worst thing that happened to us was that the apartment complex pool sloshed and flooded the living room. It was terrible, power was out for a week and half (and it was cold so no heat), my car was stuck for about two weeks, and my work was closed (I worked at Starbucks at the time). The only positive was that because it was October much of the snow melted so it was possible to move around a little, as opposed to a normal snow storm where you can't go anywhere. </p> <p>Once in High School I got stuck in a nasty snow storm and had to be rescued off my bus at one o'clock in the morning with a snowmobile. But our resort never lost power during Tomas, and we've now been without power for 48+ hours from Sandy. It hit my gym while I was in it. I didn't even know it at the time, I thought it was just thunder but that sound was the roof caving in. Everyone was running towards the hallway so I just followed. Some people did get hurt by the falling roof... but nothing too serious. My apartment was way too close, we were non-stop watching the news, ready to evacuate. But then the wind changed in our favor. All you could see was red skies and soot and ashes outside the window.
