In Japan, royalty and the nobility often had fair skin because they didn't have to work out in the fields like the common farmers. Wouldn't be surprised if they also had small faces and big eyes!</p> <p>I think the phrase blue bloods also refers to fair skin. Some people's skin is so fair, that you can see the blue veins underneath them.
